The latest trend is for sites to take the original release, unrar than rar it again but with a password. Since these lamers don't have the compression tools of the groups, a simply way to see if they have a password is look at the number of archive files. Usually they'll be 5-10 more if they have a password.

You could also download just one of the rar files and open it up and see if it has a password set.
