Hey I have been reading into changing my ps3 into a pc, so I can have a small pc/gaming system in the living room. I would like to play formats like mkv, ogm ,ect. Any way on the hard drive swap I was thinking if I could install a TB HD but i think the system firmware would have to work hand in hand not sure. If any one can give me a heads up it will be a big help.
Thanks in advanced guys

Well let's look at what I wrote
(Hey I have been reading into changing my ps3 into a pc)
This means I have been doing my research and may have what is already needed to do what I'd like and may already know its slow.
Lets see what ells I said
(Any way on the hard drive swap I was thinking if I could install a TB HD but i think the system firmware would have to work hand in hand not sure)
This is me asking for a simple no or yes answer to which you didn't really answer at all and since you don't know they do make them but not all will fit in a 2.5" ( http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10296034-1.html )
For the future maybe you should use the "SEARCH" feature before you assume the answer to a question. You know what they say when you assume and maybe double check what you've read since you obviously didn't get all that.
Thanks for the reply

It supports drives of at least 2TB, possibly more, but the biggest drive that can be connected without adapters and an external enclosure is 750GB...and these are very expensive and somewhat hard to find. 640GB are far more common, and 500GB is probably the best deal per GB.

Napalm212, ignore sky920, he is our resident moaner/cry baby/emo.
As KillerBug has already stated, there are 750GB 2.5" HDD's
http://www.awd-it.co.uk/scripts/prodview.asp?idproduct=6747
I still thought we only had 500GB 2.5" as a maximum >.<
I also notice this 1TB 2.5", not sure if its a typo though
http://www.expansys.com/d.aspx?i=189135
There is also an option to use 3.5" HDD's above 1TB, in order to do this, you will need to run a cable from the inside of your PS3, to the outside, if that is no problem for you, that would be your best route, you would need something like this http://www.consolesource.com/ecomm/catal...der-p-2593.html
When you install Linux on your PS3, you usually give 10GB to the Linux section and the rest to the PS3 OS, but you can do this the opposite way too, giving most to your Linux partition.

Nah - i rarely leave the house, though saying that, could you try to calm down and act abit more mature, you being rude to everyone asking a question is getting a tad boring, also it makes for awfull reading.
Please try to be nice :)

I wouldnt have left that comment, if you hadnt been rude to the thread creator, he asked a simple question and because you found it to hard to answer, you had to be nasty and ignorant.
I dont know why the moderators let you away with it, but enough is enough, if you dont know the answer to a question, dont reply and dont be nasty, its boring.
All im asking is you be a bit more nice to people asking questions.
EDIT:
Im not discussing this any further on this thread, as it is off topic, if you wish to discuss it any further, do so through PM.

its not hard to answer, a simple search of these forums would give him the answer, takes probly 5 mins and u dont got to create a post, thats all i will say it saves time, space and frustration. there are a few posts from the past week or 2 about linux and hdds for it.
you would need an external housing for the hdd if you are going for a tb, and a sata adapter for it, but if you want slimline you can get a 640gb hdd off newegg which will do just as good, unless you have a massive massive collection of mkv movies.
640gb - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136459
1tb - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284
couldnt find a sata extender on newegg, i may be miss reading things... but i searching on newegg realy quick under their cabels u should find the extenders.

Thanks for the mass input guys, really helped in me deciding what I was going to do. I have decided on a 500 gig 2.5 HDD and an external I already have in my home. I look forward to my transition from 360 to PS3. By end of tax season I will have everything up and running. A shame, I like the new design on the new PS3's but I can't install an OS and I am losing backwards compatibility with the up to date phats.
All in all a great deal for a blue ray player/ counsel/ media Pc
Thanks for the input - have a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

And who are you, snodog? I only ask because it seems a bit odd for someone who has nothing to do with the discussion to suddenly come in and question the moderator.
Besides, it's pretty clear sky was the one at fault. If you think otherwise, you need to re-read the rest of this thread.
