Hi all, I am thinking of getting a PS3 (mainly for Soul Calibur 4 and FF13 when it comes out), and there are other games that I'm looking that are for the PS3. The problem is, these games are also available on the XBOX 360 (which is cheaper than the PS3). Right now, I am inclined to buy a 360 because I can play backup games on it (unlike the PS3), but before I make a final decision, I have one question:
-We all know that PS3 games are stored in Blu-Ray Discs as opposed to the 360's DL DVD's. If a media has a larger capacity, then I would assume that the game (that's available on the PS3 and the 360) for the PS3 has more features than its 360 counterpart. Is this true? If so, then would these new features be valid reasons for me to choose the PS3 over the 360?

Not necessarily, with DLC these days most games cover the same content. The only difference between games is that BR Discs have more space so they can have less compression in files which allows for higher quality audio or video files. However, even though the space is there it is seldom used.
Be aware that microsoft does buyout certain DLC and timed exclusives, like that of GTAIV.
You should aim to get the console you want for games. Otherwise, the same console that your friends play on if you play online. If not, still consider it for borrowing games. Otherwise, choose based on the controller. These are just suggestions, it will always come down to preference.

Hmm...I guess I'll go for the 360 then. I already have a Wii that I got bored of, and I really want FF13 and Soul Calibur 4 (not to mention playing backup games). I won't be going online a lot, so I don't have to worry about paying for online play (or getting my 360 banned). Thanks for the info! By the way, what does DLC stand for? Does it stand for downloadable contents?

Not really a great thread to start;
a. This is the PS3 forum. You can't really expect anthing but an answer biased towards the PS3 in here.
b. The question has already been asked and discussed hundreds of times.
c. All the info you need is readily available for you if you search.
Stickweed has already answered your question re. Disk capacity, so see here for the answers we gave another guy asking the same question recently.

I would advice against the Xbox360 arcade, as it does not have a hard drive, and microsoft locks out all the good memory cards. The xbox 360 elite is $300...the same price as a PS3-slim. The 360 (even the elite) only work with microsoft hard drives, so a 120GB Xbox360 hard drive costs $40 more than a 500GB PS3 hard drive. Also, PS3 has free online gameplay, chat, texting, and PS-Home. Xbox360 requires a subscription that costs $60 a year to do the same, and it does not have anything like PS-Home.
PSN has game sharing...most games that can be purchased and downloaded from the PSN store can be shared with up to four other people. This effectivly cuts the cost of each of these titles to 20%. This is the closest thing to piracy that the PS3 has, but sony does not seem to mind that people do this, and they have not issued anything saying that it is not OK to do this. Xbox360 allows for true piracy...but it is not advisable to play these games online, as it can "brick" your system.
The PS3 has bluray support, and it is better than the bluray support in bluray players costing over $300...it is like buying a gaming system for $300 and getting a free $500 bluray player. Xbox360 has only DVD and HDDVD support, and HDDVD support is an add-on.
Both have Netflix streaming. Xbox360 has the icon built into the XMB...PS3 has a disc. PS3's netflix quality is better than on 360. PS3 will eventualy get this through the XMB as well...once microsoft's bribe to netflix runs out.
The games that tend to benifit from the bluray media the most are PS3 exclusives with lots of cutscenes. Overall, there isn't much difference, and most PS3 titles are small enough to fix on a DVD-DL disk. While the bluray disks may be able to hold 50GB, there is only 512MB total memory in the PS3, and this limits how much can be used at any time.
Xbox360 has it's exclusives, and PS3 has it's own as well...
Forza is only on Xbox360
Gran Turismo 5(Coming in march) is only on PS3.
GTADLC are only on Xbox360
Uncharted 2 is only on PS3
There are lots of others, but you get the point...the only way to play all the games is to have all the systems.
From a technicaly standpoint, there is no question that the PS3 is the superiour system...Just ask the DoD who have about 4,000 of them built into a supercomputer. This is a good thing because it means that there is a lot of room for advancement, while the 360 is already pushing it's limits, doing far more than the same hardware could do with windows.
Other than the GTA-DLCs, I prefer the PS3 in every way...and the GTA-DLCs were kept of the PS3 because of a bribe by microsoft, so this further destroys my desire to give Microsoft money. Thus, I am a PS3 user...and if someone were to give me a 360, I would put it up on ebay still shrinkwrapped.

nice one killer bug, great explanation and couldnt agree with you more. the console maybe cheap, but when u look at all the stuff you need for it to work to full potential its EXPENSIVE, i personaly prefer ps3's games and the controller, i cant stand 360 controller, my thumb is down here!! why the f**k is the joystick up there!?!?!?, and its realy bulky, the orignal xbox controller scares me in its size, that thing was massive, but maybe i grew up with that style since ive had every playstation, still got 2 ps1's in my atic xD, they became so cheap in the year 1999, we bought 2 for multiple rooms.

The only thing i will say on the subject is, it is very dumb/stupid to choose the 360, because you can steal games of the net.

And dont forget that M$ banned over a million consoles from their live service as they claim to be able to detect modified consoles. So that means no online play on the xbox cos there's a change you will be banned.
PS3 not hacked so no online banning yet, and its free to use.

well MS says they can detect yourconsole power usage, which if its defferent then its standard they can say u have an extra fan or a chip taking some extra juice, the only way to get banned on ps3 is to to go onto home with a bad name, or go onto home cursing out everybody in sight.

danilyu I already own a 360 and I am very disappointed. I had a horrible experience with the controller on stf4 and other fighters (MVC 2 arcade, waste of money :-|). I am going for the ps3 also for the new STF that is coming out soon. Trust me when I say, it is a thousand times better with the PS3, controller response is on another level. Also you get a blue ray player and the ability to install Linux ubuntu and turn it into a media PC (a bit slow but works) on select PS3's (phat). If you go 360 you will spend money on accessories galore:
Head set
wireless adapter(sucks)
chargable batteries(a must)
If you want to go with the abillity to back up games you would need to soft mode the drive and you need to take it apart(void warenty)to find out which one you have. Perches the equipment and pray you have the right drive and follow the instructions to a T. Over all you get what you pay for and in terms of media & game the PS3 rains King, well in my opinion.
- I am just saying with tax season around the corner chose wisely -
Hope this helps, Good luck and have a happy New Year and a Merry Christmas
PS: I forgot the mention you can ghost you games on the drive for when you go online with them but be warned if your hit with the bullet your system is banned(99 Years lol really forever)and you already paid for the service($50 for a year $10 short of a game) - PS3(free).

If your only interest is gamming then get which ever one makes sleep better at night. Both are fun. One is more reliable. If you want more than just gamming, I would suggest the PS3. It offers more and does it free. I?ve had both and had problems with both. Wound up sticking with the PS3.

Reliability makes me sleep good. Knowing that I didn't pay microsoft for their anti-competative practices helps me sleep at night. Waiting for GT5 keeps gives me sweet dreams...but come march, I think I won't be sleeping much ;)

i believe u must use headsets made for, xbox, since they are special made u can use any bluetooth headset with ps3 bc the ps3 has bluetooth so xbox has to have special headsets made just for their console, xbox doesnt like 3rd party accessories, usualy all your accessories have an xbox 360 branding. and MS wants to make sure u dont use anything else beside their products, their controllers got proprietary ports, where as ps3 has a simple everday usb mini to charge it, just a small example. and the 360 headset cost about the same as the ps3 wireless one, but u can easily find bluetooth headets for about 20-30$

Wife and kids got me a steering wheel combo for in anticipation of GT5 for Christmas. I?m not supposed to know. Cant wait for March as well.
My deal with MS may be different from others. My 360 scratches disk. I did not realize that it was the consoles fault at first. Game Stop and Wal-Mart was good at first about replacing the games but quickly quit replacing them. MS tech support, at multiple times accused me of shaking the console while the disk was spinning and accused me of switching the console from horizontal to vertical while playing. Retards, it was never budged. Anyway, I lied to MS and said that the disk drive quit working at times (hopping that they would replace the drive). They sent me a coffin. They returned my console to me unrepaired. Cost of the 360 + 8 games($480) wasted. It now resides with my Atari, Sega Geneses and PS1 in a box in my Shop.

You can always buy a WD Bevs drive and install that, M$ isnt locking those out, only the fake memory cards.
@ danilyu I know I will get flamed for it, but I prefer the 360 mainly for the ability to play backup games. Theres nowt worse than paying £45 for a game and having one of the kids scratch it. I also quite like the 360 controller, it just fits nicely in your hands. Then theres Natal, that looks cool though Im sure sony will follow up with something simlar (iToy2 or summit)

Nothing wrong with liking the 360, I just feel there is more freedom with a PS3 and it could be just me but sony seem less anal about things. They don't try to bamboozle you as much lol you wont get hit over the head when you visit the apple tree.

I really dislike the 360's "points" system for purchasing stuff. Same for the Nintendo Wii. I've always appreciated that everything in the PSN is straight currency.

Well I have a new slim PS3 about 25 Games and an Xbox 360 with about 100 and heres what I think
1. Controller - Love the xbox
2. Online - Xbox
3. Games - Xbox
4. System - Ps3 (I love my xbox but damn they make them like shit)
5. Media options - Ps3
I think if your a media Buff , Internet Movies music and games go with the ps3 If your a hardcore gamer get your self a xbox mod that and love life with every game available. Or start making 200K a year like me and buy 4 of each. I have both in each room of my house but i get ridiculous I have a Ps3 Slim in the bathroom in my bedroom LOL

I have both and one thing you need to keep in mind about modding your 360, you will get banned eventually from Xbox Live. Just a matter of time. Look at the 360 forum and see how almost everyone (including me, thankfully had an extra unmodded one also) got banned recently. Sure they will say well this new firmware is totally undetectable, well that's BS, because they said that about the others. MS isn't stupid and is going after modded consoles.
The 360 is cool and XBL is really good. Just it's unreliable with the RROD and I've had the Jasper ones. The PS3 seems a lot more reliable. Keep in mind too that the 360 makes you pay $80 or so for the wireless network adapter and it's built into the PS3. I like them both for sure, the blu ray thing just is cool. Catch a PS3 on sale too online, I got mine for like $220 a couple weeks ago at Dell, after Bing cash back.

Yeah...if disk backup was truly a feature, and not just a hack, then it would be a great feature...but it is just a hack, and there are over a million people who regret ever trying it. I do have to disagree with your first 3 words..."MS isn't stupid"...if they had any inteligence, they would have programmed the 360 like the PS3...more secure than a bank vault.
I thought that by now microsoft would at least include a rechargable battery...I guess I gave them too much credit.
The headset is total crap...I use a wired headset with my PS3, but I do it out of choice (batteries always die at the worst time)...and the wire does not go to a controller, so I can hang it out of the way. Also, it was only $30, and it works and sounds better than the xbox headset. Plus, PS3 allows you to get noise cancelation units like the jawbone...ideal for chating while gaming while listening to music.
I have never even tested the wifi of my PS3...but it is nice to know it is there if I ever need/want it.
