I'm thinking about getting an xbox 360. But, I hear about problems with it, like, the RROD. What can I do to eliminate this RROD and other issues the 360 has? I don't want to get stuck with a messed up 360 a month or two after I buy it.

Dude its just not that bad. If you get a new console you should be ok. Just like any other product, there are bound to be hardware failure but the xbox 360 more so than others. I still believe that Micro$oft still has a 3yr warranty on hardware failure so I say jump right in. And the jasper units which are the newest consoles are using a smaller chipset and therefore running cooler. Game on.

Is it possible to mod the jasper consoles to play backup games?

@wabashaman: Can I send you 4 of LiteOn 93850 drives so you can modify them to play backup?

I will be very gratefull, because you are the only one who can do this at this time.

And you can make some money, because you are the only one who can dump a key and OFW from this drive.

@talk2it: If you buy brand new Xbox 360, probably you will get one of the LiteOn DVD drives which can not be modded.

How long do you recommend that someone plays a game before you think it'll red ring?

my xbox that is a jasper and has the 12v fan mod, cardboard and 2 extra fans will never overheat. i have left it on f0r 24 hours straight playing games and letting it sit during the time and it was not even hot. The old xboxs its just the amount of time until the solder cracks off the chips....

Yep! I also believe they still have the 3 year warranty, which means nothing if you break the seal and mod it to play backups!!

Where do you get this info ?
I had read that they were going to go exclusively with BenQ drives because they were quieter and more reliable then any of the other drives they have used over the years.

Although it would make sense that M$ would go with a newer drive that has not yet been hacked to "try" and stop the hacking, but anything can be hacked if there is enough determination, intrest, need, desire and time.
So to say "which can not be modded.", it's just a matter of time....

Is there a place I can send my xbox to, or, a place that can add the fans for a price?

personally i don't know.

I ordered the fans a few months back when i ordered some PS2 swap magic disc's for a couple of friends and when i just updated my 360 to the latest firmware i finally installed them while i had my 360 taken apart.

For about 9 months i never had any problems so i figured why bother taking it apart to install them, i was on 1.51 firmware, but seeing as the new wave of games needed the newest firmware i decided to update and while i had it apart i installed the fans.

replacing the x-clamps with m5 10mm pan head machine screws and #10 flat nylon washers would stop the motherboard flexing that causes the solder to break. Of course most people usually wait until they actually get the red rings to do this fix but then that also means you need to do a reflow to fix the broken solder

w00ly, are you saying that the xbox consoles with jasper chips are prone to red ring issues?
