I heard that Sony will make a helmet with a monitor for the PS3 that allow gamers to move around in a game as if they were in the game. Is this true?... Talk to me.

madshaun, I couldn't find anything relating to 'nvidia vision discover for PS3' on google. All that comes up is PS3 games in 3D, not the actual helmet designed for PS3 in 3D. And no video comes up either. Can you provide links? Thanks.

There is no helmet or any such thing that I have ever read ANYWHERE on the net. You may likely be mistaken or who ever told you that is/was. What could possibly be the issue is the head tracking that Sony is working on for the PS3 with the use of the PS Eye. This is rumored/partially confirmed to be implemented into the FULL GT5 that will release in the next few months. Here are some videos about it and how it looks/what it does ~

Hope that helps.

Oner, I saw one of the videos. Is this technology to be used in 3D gaming for the PS3? In one of the videos, the images seem to be in 3D as the camera moved from left to right. Let me know.
Hope that helps.

That looks very interesting indeed. Is MS and the 360 capable of doing that? I didn't bother looking at Natal (as far as I know, all it is is a one-up on the Wii's infrared sensor), but I would assume it could function much like the PSEye in this case, no?

Based on what I read about the limitations of the 360, I dont think so. It looks like the PS3 is built for the future, like 3D, unlike the weak ass 360.

If you had watched the video on the link I provided, you would of seen the so called helmet (Its just the nvidia 3d vision glasses), and if you had looked up the nvidia 3d vision, like I had said you would of realised. sony wont waste money making a helmet, third parties may do it for specific games releases, but other than that, the glasses are all it is, combined with an ir transmitter.

Yeah, I tried clicking on the link but it wont work. But anyway, I saw the videos on links provided by another poster. The technology looks good, but I'm not a big fan of it. It might work for some, but, I'm not that impressed with it.

Yeah, you need at least a 200hz tv, as the 3d vision uses 100hz for each eye,(for the 3d effect, I would say 100hz for the red colour and 100hz for the green/blue) (im not to good with the technical details on exactly how it works, but thats the jist of it)

There is more info on how it works on the nvidia site, but its in relation to a pc game not the ps3, but the basics of it are the same on both platforms.

Iv seen this tech on an arcade police game...forgot the name. When you have to duck and sway your body to find cover. Used to play it all the time at gameworks.

PS3...it only does everything(that Sony allows it to)

BTW...such helmets do exist, and have been around since the early '90s...with a seperate monitor for each eye, directional sound, and motion sensors. However, all this costs a lot of money...so not many are made, so the price goes up even more. Because of this, there are very few programs that support the technology, even though it is almost 20 years old. I am sure the PS3 could support them with a firmware update, and that games could be modified to work with the helmets...but only if the technology was more affordable and mass-produced.

Sounds like fun in some ways it reminds me of Nintendo's virtual Boy..Sigh that ended badly lol, apparently the system was causing some form of damage to the younger children who played. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Boy edited by ddp

Any way I wounder what games they may plan to develop for this on release?
