Not sure if you have a 2000 or 3000 (the one that can't be permanently modded) & can't tell? No problem. Ducky04 here to the rescue.

How do I know if my psp is the new, PSP 3000?

Now lets check for the TA-082 motherboard. Open you UMD drive.
Look at the top right side corner. The PSP 2000 has nothing there. If you can read an upside-down "IC1003", it is a TA-082 Motherboard. If you can't read, then you shouldn't be doing this. And you can read, seeing that you are reading this.
TA-082 Motherboards are not compatible.

You can tell if it's 3000 by looking at the code beneath the screen from the front, it's below the start-select on the thin border, it ends up with PSP300X...

I am the Insight.
