I backed up my copy of a movie using dvd shrink (latest),and burned using nero. It plays fine on the expensive denon player at work, will not read on the apex at home. If that isn't backwards.... Anyhow, my friend suggested that sometimes compressing the menus causes problems, so I reburned it with the menus uncompressed. No avail. Still plays fine at work, and will not work on dvd player at home. (btw not just cheap apex at home, but also a cheap phillips dvd theater in the box) Any suggestions?

Make sure in Nero that you have 'no multisession' checked in the settings for DVD-ROM UDF/ISO option - you need to click on 'new' afterwards to make sure it stays in that setting.

Thanks for the suggest, I'm pretty certain that isn't it though. I know I had multi session disengaged, I also know that I clicked "new" afterwards. Thanks, for the suggestion

Better media may help. What are you using? Very strange a Denon will play it and not the Apex!

Yeah, I know usually it's the other way around apex plays all... Anyhow to answer your question, I am using verbatum 4x dvd+r. I heard from a friend that those are comperable to other "good" media on the market. What do you think?

Now it's even stranger - Verbatim is a good make.

Maybe try burning at 2X and see what happens.

i have the same problem....i have a new but very cheap phillips dvd player that works with dvd-r and dvd+r (it will basically play anything)...and i also have a older RCA dvd player.....it refuses to play dvd+r's but will play dvd-r's....and i have a toshiba dvd player that won't play any copied dvd+/-r's at all....i guess it just depends on the brand....newer dvd players will usually play anything...except toshiba...i don't know anyone who's toshiba will let them play burnt dvd's....so yeah just spend $70 (i don't think mine costed that much) on a brand new dvd player....in the end u'll be satisfied

Welcome to the Club Percy,

Older players played only -R media as a rule while the newer players will play a "Papa John's" Pizza provided the cheese isn't too thick -

I have 2 standalones, one cost $39.99 and the last cost $29.99 after rebate (both purchased from Radio Shack) and they play anything -

I suggest you stay with your Verbatim, the Memorex will cost you in the future - they are getting a terrible rep in the recent past, they've gone from fair to lousy in less than a year - Go Figure -
