My tv is a Mitsubishi HD1080 series. My Xbox360 stretches (cuts off the sides) the screen on 1080i definition. The only way it doesn't stretch is when I change the settings to 480p or switch the cord to analog tv. I cannot change the Screen Format when I choose the 1080i setting. Please help.

I dunno if they have the switches on the new models anymore, but the older ones had a toggle switch on the video-out cable to switch between component/composite cables (red+blue+green video/yellow video). Have you tried this? It might... MIGHT explain the stretching issue.

the only time it doesn't stretch is when the switch is on analog or the display setting is on 480p

try messing with your tv settings. on my tv you can zoom and do different junk like that. if i zoom too much it'll mess with my picture too.
also... try 720p instead of 1080i (if you can do that. not sure).

I can't get 720p. I just get a blue screen and my tv doesn't have a zoom option and I can't find where to set the format on the tv

that's odd that you can do 1080i but not 720p.
is hdmi an option besides component cables?
go to settings on your tv and check under the video section. any tv that supports high def should have video settings (not %100 sure but pretty positive).

Give us some more info, what kind of cables are you using? Are you using component or HDMI cable or the stock cables that came with the system?

I'm using the stock component cables that came with the system. I don't think it had to do with my tv, because it plays channels from my DVR just fine

have you at least tried the tv settings. your cable box might have video settings as well (i know uverse and cox boxes do).
if your tv settings are legit, and your 360 is set to 1080i and it still strectches... i'm out of thoughts.

I can assure you that I have checked my tv settings again and again, and there is nothing about zooming, screen format, or anything else that might give me a thing about the settings that would majorly affect the display.

Hmmmmmm ok so what input do you have to change your tv to when you turn on your xbox 360 video or component, if its just video then this means that the stock cables that came with you 360 are not componenet so it can't produce hd pictures. I have component cables for my cable box and they produce a good HD picture, I don't think the 360 comes with a component cable I think it comes with the basic composite so you may need to get the right cables. I'm using a HDMI cable for mine but if you want to get digital audio as well you will need to purchase the xbox 360 hd cables.

I have a Mitsubishi DLP TV. Does it say "Wide Expand" in the upper left hand corner? On my remote, there is a "format" button. Pushing that button toggles the zoom

Also, does your tv support overscan? if so I would turn that option off because it causes the screen on 360 and ps3 to stretch and for me makes games unplayable. Hopefully your tv is not like mine (47 inch lcd insignia) because if you use any other cables than hdmi it will not allow you to change the overscan setting.
My gf has a launch 360 no hdmi and I tried using hers to play halo 3 online with component cables and the mountains and stuff were so big i could not see anything else. Also, when people would jump in the air I could not see them lol. But when I tried the game with hdmi on my box and turned off overscan everything looked normal again. I tried the component cables with all the resolutions 720p-1080p and with the boarders in place an without, but playing without overscan was the only thing that solved my problem.

I don't get it how can you be viewing the game in HD if your using stock cables? And you have to stretch the picture. True HD is recognized by the television automatically and the 360 usually displays it at its optimal setting.

Apparently not, I guess. The new 360s only come with stock composite red/white/yellow cables, or at least that's what all the product details state.
They don't come with the component cable + toggle anymore. (Or if they do, feel free to correct me.)

they come with component cables. the blue, green, and red along with the white and red analog for audio. The cables also have analog for non-HDTVs, but component is available with the stock cables.
