phat 1000 is going to be your very best bet. i dont know where you live by in the U.S. gamestop has phat psp's for 79 dollars. there are some slim 2000 series that can be modded. look under the battery and make sure the seriel number does not start with HU you should be ok. i would recomend the phat though very little problems modding them. if you go and buy a new 3000 or pspgo you probally will not be able to get that firmware on it.

probally not without a pandora. if you buy anything with more than 5.03 firmware you are going to have to have a pandora.

You can mod ANY PSP no matter the version or motherboard. It explains that certain motherboards can not be PERMANENTLY modded but that any previously hackable mobo can permanently modded without a Pandora Battery. This is named ChickHen and as far as I can tell ChickHen R2 is the most up to date... I personally just updated My 5.00 m-33 to 5.50 Gen-D2 but I have the 1000 series. I have played the new tekken 6 on my psp and works great. Tekken 6 did not work on 5.00 m-33 (someone said the game .iso needed patched but I could not find a patch anywhere..)This is all gathered from RESEARCH that I have done in the past 24hours.. I am NOT a PSP modder... I only updated my OWN PSP... ( GEN-D2 is supposed to make and unmake Pandora batteries with the press of a button or two, and I think I want to try this)
I could have editted this but some may have missed the edit it was a few answers back.... ChickHen does not allow you to play .isos... it merely allows you to add cfw to your PSP which will in turn allow you to run .isos from the game folder. From my understanding, even if you have the TA-088v3 you CAN install ChickHen, then install a cfw and play .iso games. If you turn off your PSP it will revert back to the original ofw thus having to reinstall both ChickHen and CFW (which only takes minutes, but if you do not let your battery die you do not have to reinstall.)I also believe that if your OFW (the firmare that comes with your original PSP or if you update the Sony firmware) is newer than 5.03 YOU CAN NOT USE CHICKHEN..

i am trying to help you with experience, no matter what goes wrong the phat can be recoverd, there is no real choice here. if you have an oppurtunity to get a 1000 cheap take it there is no functioning difference in it and a 2000. the 2000 is slimmer, and not built half as stable. one good drop and your psp could be trash. take the 1000, hack it put the games you want on it. a 2000 or some 3000's that have the right motherboard can be hacked, some cant why take the chance?

phat should not matter, but if you happen to see one with say 3.71 grab that, it would be your easiest to fix.
