I've found that some games won't play (image shows up in home screen but then game doesn't load) until you update to the latest firmware at the time the game was released.
My wii is PAL and has a modchip (no idea which, I bought it chipped, but I know it's not wiikey) and firmware is still version 3.1
It does NOT have any softmods.
I usually use the brickblocker to remove any updates from games but I'd like to update to 4.0 or after since many recent games I downloaded won't play at all, but I'm worried about 4.2.
so my questions are:
a) can a same-region (PAL in my case) 4.2 update brick my modchipped wii or does it only target the HBC?
b) is there a game that you know for sure includes the 4.1e update? if enough ppl confirm a game, I'll use its disc to update instead and stop worrying about the 4.2, and I guess most games will play, so the previous problem goes away for now.
No the 4.2 update will not brick your wii it will just make it so you cant do allot of the installing of wad files, HBC, VC ect. but as of now there is a method to softmodding a 4.2 system so I would use the wii offcial update then follow the softmod guide to bring your system to current and have ability of playing all the new software titles
Wouldn't it be easier to download the proper Firmware Updater 4.1 and run it from your SD card. I updated my chipped Wii using the Firmware Updater 4.0 wad and it worked fine. Mine is NTSC, not sure if there is a seperate Pal one, but it runs and gets the updates online.
