Hi guys, My nephew broke his wii - its just the drive itself. I cannot find any relevant information as to whether I can replace his D2E with another cheaper model or if I HAVE to replace it with a D2E. Can someone enlighten me please? Much thanks in advance...

Any model is fine. Region of the drive doesn't matter either. All the region coding is in the wii, not the drive.
