PS3 drive loads/unloads but no disk info display?!?!?!?!

my PS3 just stopped playing all disks?!?!?!?! I can load and unload just fine and the blue indicator light shows when a disk has been inserted. But, under no menu does a disk show up that I can play. I even tried going into the settings to 'autoplay' when a disk is loaded....no luck. Anyone have any suggestions??

Do I need to get just the lens or I see they have an optical block. I assume that must be the entire piece + the lens, right???
Is this pretty common and people have done this?

How hard is it to replace this? I have zero soldering skills......
