I know this has probably been asked many times already but im confused. Ive been playing my xbox 360 for a while now after having done the x clamp replacement fix to fix it when it got RROD. But after a few months it starting to freeze up again, and its not the hard drive because even after taking that out it still freezes. Its doing the same for all the games i try. Its in open space with nothing covering the ventilation areas. Anyone know what might be happening?

What's happening is that the XClamp fix isn't permanent, it is a temporary fix. You'll need to have a reflow done if you want a more long-lasting repair.

it IS permanent if the micro fractured solders are in good contact with each other and will not allow corrosion to build up. The xclamp fix tightens the heatsink to the board thus bringing the solders in contact again.

However sometimes they only connect a tiny bit and putting current through that constantly can build up enough corrosion to cause them to no longer be touching. But if that is the case you would think you would get red rings again not random freezing. Maybe if thats the systems natural response to solder becoming disconnected and not show you those sexy rings we all love. Sounds like GPU since its the graphics i would pay attention to that.

Maybe overheating from bad/not enough thermal paste on the chip surface?

Maybe too much (silver) paste causing something near the chip(s) to conduct causing freezing?

Software maybe? dashboard update maybe needed if you dont play live, Especially with new games and you last update was 2006.

Maybe try tightening you heatsink screws slightly. Or loosening if they are pushing on the chips very hard.

Cant really give many suggestions you think freezing could be from many things so its hard to diagnose. Try googling "troubleshooting xbox 360 freezing" and if all else fails, Get a proper reflow done ($30-$60) or try a (dangerous) reflow with a heatgun yourself. Really up to you what you do at this point, Thats just my input.

Good Luck!
