After being advised by a number of members on here I went out and got a 1TB external HD to store my games on. Was told that they transfer back to PC fine. Discovered that this isnt the case, upon the unrar of files Winrar goes crazy with diagnostic messages telling me that the volume is corrupt and so I cant unrar to get the iso and dvd files needed for burning. Are there any ways I can fix these files? I have quite a few games(which took weeks to download) that I was unable to burn when they were on the C as I had a virus that closed imgburn, so I had to reformat,thus losing the originals. Now they are on my external I cannot unrar them. To isolate the problem to the HD I transfered a game that I had sucesfully unrar'd and burned when it was on the C. The same file will not unrar and winrar is coming up with the same corruption messages. The file transfers accross without reporting any problems, but when I come to unrar there is a problem. I am livid. There must be a way, dont tell me I have to go through it all again after SO many people on here confirmed to me that this would NOT happen.

You can't blame people on here for the problems/behavior of your PC.

1st, what you're trying to do, I do all the time with no problems whatsoever.

2nd, If you are here (360 forum), I assume these RAR'ed images are 360 games. If so the images are useless to the 360 until they are un-RAR'ed and burned. Again, if so, You've burned these games already. And if you've burned them already, why not just recover these images from your burned games (after you fix the issues with your PC)?

Im not blaming, Im just perplexed as to why people told me this when I stressed on numerous times if this would happen, as I suspected it would.
Im certainly not blaming you... or anyone for that matter, AD is immensely helpful, but facing the possibility that I have just wasted weeks and weeks sat looking at utorrent anxious to play a game made me reach for caps lock. It is kind of the pc equivalent of throwing the xbox controller at the tv. Doesnt get you anywhere but feels good for about 5 seconds.

I cant quite make out your 2nd point;
"If so the images are useless to the 360 until they are un-RAR'ed and burned. Again, if so, You've burned these games already. And if you've burned them already, why not just recover these images from your burned games?"
Yes the usual procedure is to unrar the biggest rar file in the downloaded 360 game file. But when I go to unrar it fails. I havent burned them already, thats my biggest gripe with the whole thing, I had them on C ready to burn.

Next time you should just unrar the iso and then put it on the external drive. I never really trust rar files much cause if only one goes bad then your basically screwed because all the other files are useless unless your can find exact computer of that file. I think you can spare an extra GB of space since you have a terabyte.

That point was simply to say that if these are Xbox 360 games, you HAD to burn them in order to play them. Since you burned them, just use ImgBurn to make new ISOs, to store on your terabyte.

transferring any file from pc to whatever will work regardless if errors are contained within unless it is unable to be read,so expecting the comp to tell there's an issue will not arise,from your description it sounds like the file was corrupt before the transfer as it would do an exact copy of the original,only time i can think of a file going bad was if there was a write caching issue for whatever reason (as in your 1st post i've put below),best to set the external up for quick removal if you don't it can lead to corrupted file tables if the external is disconnected suddenly while being accessed by the comp,you could try to run chkdsk on the external it may fix them if you had it connected when a hard shutdown was performed or perhaps the virus came from one of those saves

Thanks for all the replies.

"Next time you should just unrar the iso and then put it on the external drive. I never really trust rar files much cause if only one goes bad then your basically screwed because all the other files are useless unless your can find exact computer of that file."
I never thought of doing this, I assumed it was better to transfer it in RAR form so that there was less to transfer (not to save space on my Tb but more so that there was less chance of an error). In hindsight I should have transfered a RAR version. Then unrar the one on C and transfer the contents of that, so I would have had 2 versions.

"That point was simply to say that if these are Xbox 360 games, you HAD to burn them in order to play them. Since you burned them, just use ImgBurn to make new ISOs, to store on your terabyte."
I mustn't have written my original statement clearly, or there must be something ambiguous in there which has you thinking something different to what I mean. I don't know how best to re-phrase it, but I'll give it a go;
1)I downloaded a file around 7-8gb in size. This came in around 70 rar and r1 files.
2)Usually with files like this I can just unrar the largest RAR file (which is unique in size to the others RAR files which are usually all the same size). This file contains the iso and the dvd.
3)I would usually then burn the dvd file on imgburn (after abgx etc).

My problem is that I get stuck at point 2 as it wont unrar. So I never go to burn them.

"or perhaps the virus came from one of those saves"
No the virus came from indonewyork, there is an ad on there which contains a fake windows security warning. McAfee's response to this was to stick its head in the sand and let the little sht install itself onto my PC and pretty much block every application from running. The external wasnt plugged in at the time of the virus so it couldnt come from it, nor has the virus been able to spread to the external.

Anyway I have found the same torrent for episodes of liberty city and have compared whats downloadable to whats on my external. Some of the RAR files are different to mine and I am missing the big RAR which would contain the iso and dvd, so it must have corrupted in the transfer. My question now is as I have around 75% of the right files, can I just download the 25% I need, then stick them all in the same folder? I am able to select which of the rar files I want to download on the utorrent setting. Or will this method not work?

argh why is this happening??

So I downloaded the missing bit. Anyone who uses uTorrent will know what I mean with this next bit. When you click to download a link utorrent will open, and a box will appear asking you if you want to download these files. In this box you can read the filenames of the game downloading. uTorrent displays these filenames. So it reads;
mvl-gtae.r00
mvl-gtae.r01
and on till
mvl-gtae.r67
then there is the file I need
mvl-gtae.rar

All games I get have this important .rar file at the bottom of the list. I simply unrar them to get the iso and dvd.
So I ticked the box to download mvl-gtae.rar, as that is all I need. So after waiting hours for download I opened the file to find this list;
mvl-gtae
No number is beside it, despite utorrent telling me that each file has a number the downloading file is different. The rar file which I have tried to download will not appear, Ive changed the destination to put it on the desktop but nothing is happening.

Why is this happening?

did the download actually start if not then it's queued,increase the amount of torrents you can download at one time,like what's happening in the utorrent gui if it ain't queued in other words when the item appears in utorrent what is it doing,forget about the place it will eventually end up it either gets downloaded or it doesn't
