Greetings everyone,

I recently purchased a Wii Drivekey and running into problems trying to get my backups to work. I have a Wii with firmware 4.2u, and an installed Drivekey running software ver. 1.0/FPGA 1.0.
My first thought was to upgrade the software version of the Drivekey to 2.0 since it's supposed to be updateable. I have looked for the update 2.0 software and can not find it anywhere. This was one of the whole reasons why I bought the Drivekey.
My second thought was to see if it's possible to downgrade the Wii's 4.2u firmware to something a bit a bit older and see if that helps. I just don't know what would be more successful in my situation. I am really disappointed that I can not find a update package for the Drivekey right now. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Thanks in advance!

First off: don't downgrade the wii. It won't help anything and could potentially mess up the console.

For suggestions on how to get your games working though, we need more info.

For starters: Are none of your games working or just some? What games have you tried that aren't working? Does their region match your wii's region? What brand of disks are you burning them on and at what speed?

Hello penguin,

I only have a few titles. NSMB would load, and I could see the title screen, but when I clicked on start it would take me back to the Wii home screen. Zelda "Twilight Princess" would actually load, but after a few moments of cut sceens the game would halt, and a black error screen would appear - saying the disc was unreadable. Super Mario Galaxy, Mario and Sonic at the Winter Games, and Wii Fit could not be recognized by the Wii at all. These are all USA region games, and my Drivekey is set to USA as well.
I am using IMGburn burning at 16X with a Sony DVD writer. As for the brand of dics, I am using Memorex DVD+R 4.5GB 16X capable DVDs.

Thanks!

I'm not sure but the disk read errors make me think bad burns/bad media. Memorex isnt the best brand for wii backups. Some consoles can read them, others cannot. 4X is usually recommended for burn speed too, not 16X as the wii drive has low error tolerance.

As for NSMB dumping back to the main menu, that sounds like some kind of firmware problem, though you really shouldn't be getting one of those on firmware 4.2.

Honestly, what I would do is take burn problems out of the equation and install a USB loader, then see if I could run the games from a flash drive. If they still don't then there is some kind of problem with the wii's firmware.

To do this follow the 'modify 4.2' section of this guide and use the configurable USB loader available here.

Thank you penguin 98, I'll give that a try and let you know. Please forgive my lack of knowledge, I am somewhat new to the Wii environment.

Ok, so I installed the softmod apps. The installation of those apps went without a hitch. However, when I try to boot a backup game, I get an error 001 with Neogamma. I tried using differnt kinds of media this time, Memorex written at 4X and Sony DVD-R written at 3X, same error. I don't have a USB drive, but that's my next route. I won't have time to try this until I get back from traveling on the holidays.

I will keep you posted.

Happy Holidays.
