Hi peeps i'm new to the forum and i just wanted to ask a question about flashing my benQ drive with an oldish motherboard in a PC i have till x-mas (i built it for someone for a present). The motherboard has a via VT82C686B chipset but no sata ports just the old 40 pin IDE ports. So i was wondering if i could an IDE to sata converter port thingy (it plugs straight into the mobo IDE and gives you a sata port) and plug the xbox sata into that to flash it. I don't really wanna buy a PCI card as i only have the PC till x-mas and the converter is only a few quid since i'm only gonna be able to use it once. Can someone please tell me weather this will work or not as i'm gonna buy the converter tomorrow, and wanted to find out before i wasted my money. I tried to flash via my laptop using a cardbus sata card, but that didn't work, i think the card was defected and i'll probably be waiting till after x-mas to get a replacement since i got it off e-bay.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Don't know if the converter will work. But a sata VIA 6421 card is probably just as cheap as the converter.

I got the converter anyway just to try it. Turns out the PCMCIA sata card i had for my laptop was faulty anyway, got it from ebay and the person told me that the batch it had all had faults. So gonna order another one for my laptop anyway. But i'm gonna try the IDE converter tonight and i'll let you know if it works.
