Sticking labels on DVD disks

I have read some threads that putting lables on DVD disks, after burning, will make the recodered movies freeze or jump when playing. Please give me some info on this. Are some lables better that others. Thanks, Robert

i have had the same problem. every disk i have made so far and put a label on has failed. have had to redo many of them . hope someone has an answer to this

all i do is write on the disc with a cdr pen , i dont bother with labels as ive heard that they can be trouble .
my mate has an epson r200 printer which prints straight onto the disc , he has had no probs doing that.

Dont Use Labels on any Discs. If you dont put them on exactly right it will cause the disc to become unbalanced and stuff up.
I would either just rite on the disc with a CD Marker or get a Printer that prints directly on the disc.

It really depends on your dvd player. I download exact copies of the dvd and apply them. Have put these in 4 different dvd players and a ps2 - never one issue. If you want to do this - try it on one and see if it works.

They may play in DVD players but may not be able to be backed up again

Again same thing....if you really want to label your backups - label one - stick it back in your burner or dvd rom and TRY it. Worse case you out what 80 cents for a new DVDR?

I have 2 seperate inexpensive solutions to your problems. First off, I am not a fan of any labels on discs, they tend to put uneven weight distribution on the disc which causes it to spin out of alignment. This can lead to skipping, freezing and many other DVD player related problems. Some people do it with success but, I have found there to be better ways with less prolems. Regarding printing directly onto the discs, its a pain in the ass. Another photoshop job with more expensive printable top discs. They tend to smudge, take too much time to dry and can bleed if sweaty hands or water gets on it later in life.
I have 2 solutions I use. Primarily I use a thermal printer that costs less than 100 bucks retail, much less on ebay. It prints drectly onto the disc, cannot smudge, does not bleed, looks great and causes no uneven spinning of the disc. Check out these links:

The other cool thing I have found that is even cheaper than the printer are hub labels. Hub labels are stickers that only cover the center "hub" hole of your disc. You would be surprised how much info you can get on the sticker. I bougt the software and 500 labels for less than 25 bucks shipped to me in New York. Check out the link:

You can even buy the software and 50 labels for less than 10 bucks and try it out, I love it for less professional discs like copies of kids movies or porn that doesn't require fancy artwork. You can even import DTS and DD logos to print onto the hub or thermal printer for a cool look.

as ive said before scrap putting labels on the disc , just write on with a cdr pen , i know it dosent look as professional as a label but doing that will give you no probs.
or like my mate you could buy a epson r200 printer and some printable riteks and hey presto no probs .

Like I said I have had no issues with labels. But I'm interested in this printer that prints right to the dvd. Right now I download the actual dvd label from cc labels - can those be used with this printer? I can't see why it wouldn't work - and it would save me a few $$$ on blank labels.

i would'nt reccomend anyone to stick labels on any type of media, as someone rightly suggested earlier, it unbalances the disk.
but there is a bigger problem with labels, especially on dvd's. When a dvd is read in most dvd players, unless they have proper cooling systems, the dvd's get so hot that the glue on the sticky label eventually dries. then the label comes off!!! guess where that goes, yep you guessed it. it sticks in your dvd player!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys,
by mid summer HP, LG, hitachi will release a dvd burner that can burn images onto the cdr or dvd. yes you have to have two sided disc's and you also have to flip the disc over after you burn your movie.
i'm still looking for where i found this info, seems like it was advertised on the msn homepage. when i find it i'll post it here.
the image softwae was stated as being able to burn 3d and holographic images directly to the disc.
thats is 2 cool!

Sure its cool, its alos expensive and in my opinion not needed. First off, you will need to buy a new drive. Then, you will need to buy all new media. Both the drive and the media will cost more to cover the technology and for what? So you can burn the title into the disc? It wont be color, it wont even be black, it will be the color of the disc, silver. Not interested but, I am certain others will be.

Hi all
Iy would seem that some people have problems with labels and some don't i myself had lots of problems with sticky labels so gave up using them, then bought a canon cd printer, i print on all my discs (ritek printable)and have absolutely no problems whatsoever, all my backups play fine in every player i have tried them in and thats a lot of players.

Epson Stylus Photo 900 Ritek G04 printable disks and yes you can import lables saved on your harddrive with the software that came with the printer just trim them first with any photo software perfect looking disks every time and plays with no probs the Epson R300 i think its called that is the new model from Epson does the same job enjoy.........

ive been using surething to print lables for my cd stomper for like a year and they work beautifuly, ive never had any problems with my phillips dvd player. well, to me its kind of a big deal, i like everything to look perfect. (www.cdcovers.cc)- all your dvd,ps1/2,xbox,gamecube,ect. (except audio) cd cover needs:)
matrix infiniy modded ps2 (broken, burnt out PS1 fuse)
xbox(freshly softmodded with krazies)xbmc dash. Stock HDD.

I have been using Memorex covers for my DVDs. The DVDs play in my computer and my friends sylvania srd 2900 fine.
What DVD players work best with DVDRS with label covers?
What DVD players are yall using with your DVD covers and actually work?

i have used labels on my dvd's and they worked for a while. after time they all started to fail. have about 98% failure on evert dvd player i have tried. tried to redo the disks on my computer usind decrypter as well as shrink , also smart ripper. the older they are the worse they got.m this is on all very good equipment.

i agree with the statement not to use labels. i started off using labels and its a pain in the behind. discs not working right and such. only way to really fix them is to carefully peel off label and copy disc and hope it works.
my suggestion if you wanna do this is by an epson r200 like posted above. the software that comes with it is also good. import jpg disc labels to the software and stretch them to the desired size. if you wanna get rid of the white at end or the big silver bit on label stretch past it. i have printed plenty of discs with this onto printable dvds and not one has failed. not even flaked or smudged. the disc is dry to touch by the time it comes out of the printer.
so if you want good labels and stuff buy one.
