I haven't touched my Wii in months and when I turned it on yesterday, I updated it to 4.2J without knowing the consequences. Now I am not able to play any of my backups. Can anyone please help me and give me a little info about this?

Ok, one of 2 things has happened.

If you have a japanese console but play mostly NTSC-U or PAL games with a modchip then 4.2 blocks running out-of-region games through the disk channel. To fix this you need to either install some homebrew and boot your games through neogamma, or install some homebrew to downgrade the wii. (I dont really recommend the downgrade option since it's actually more complex and has a greater chance of messing something up)

If you're already softmodded and were running your games that way then the 4.2 upgrade undid your softmod and you need to do it again.

Either way, follow this guide to install the required homebrew.
