How do i use Neogamma with my pal wii with wiikey?

I have read through other threads and I cannot get my head around what I should be doing. I have one of the original Pal Wii's with the good old wiikey installed. Apart from a few updates (that were given to me) nothing else has ever been done.
Ideally I would like to be playing some newer games like New Mario Bros but most of them say they only work with softmodded Wiis which I have no idea what that is!
Any info on where I should go from here would be great. And sorry if I am sounding stupid ;)

Some people can play NSMB without softmodding. There is a patch floating around that removes the copy protection from the disk. Unfortunately the fix makes some consoles with modchips (especially those with wiikeys) lock up.

If you get the patched disk and it locks up when you insert it in the wii then softmodding is your only choice.

Follow the same guides that people with unmodded wii's use.

This one for firmware 4.1 and below.

Or this one if your wii is on firmware 4.2
