My mum is using a Starview 1 original and has just called me to say that all channels are showing 'bad or scrambled'. She is in UK with VM and has the latest firmware.

Have VM done something similar to that in Ireland?

Sorry! Should have been more specific! She is in the Luton area. I have read about Leeds going over to Nagra3 and wondered if it was being rolled out in other areas too? I will go over there tonight and try a scan

make sure the EMU is on, press menu - type 1570 and go to the hidden menu and make sure EMU is set to on

Checked the following via telephone: EMU was found to be OFF. I advised the person on the phone to set it to ON and do an autoscan. Channels were found but all still show as 'bad or scrambled'.

if it was off, ya dont need to autoscan, just turn it on and exit out to a chan and let it update, if its showing scrambled then you need to check the EMU again

OK, I have been there myself and confirmed EMU was 'ON'. I did an auto scan for channels and as above, plenty were found. Problem is that altough the signal strength bar has plenty of green segments, there is no picture or sound, and eventually the message 'Channel bad or scarmbled' appears.

I have checked some of the other information available on the box and have the following after entering 1570:

Nagravision
NTL
Provider ID: 54 01
Key Number: 00
Key Data: I have the keys but won't post here. PM me if needed to aid troubleshooting

About 12 months ago, after the last VM upgrade, I installed the latest software available from Eamo's library, but am wondering if I should re-install it? The version of that is: Crypstar v1.5-core400

I haven't done a factory reset yet. I did do one earlier this year when there was a previous problem unconnected with this one. That time, doing the factory reset erased the software and I had to reinstall.

Factory Re-Set does not interfere with the Firmware installed on the box (so that is a strange one) - but never the less you do need to do a Factory Re-Set before an Automatic scan on your correct provider okay, when finished and channels found go into Cas System and turn EMU on and press Set Default Key whilst there to give it a kickstart as cacti has suggested, then exit out 3 times and let it update. (The firmware you have quoted Cryptstar v1.5 Core400.bin is the correct one for genuine)

channel frequency changing all the time, surprised a factory reset and scan had not been done in a while, you would have lost a number of channels.

Thanks for the help guys. I have visited mum today and carried out a factory reset, rescan and checked EMU on and set default key. Situation was still the same, channels found but no picture or sound from any of them. In desperation I reloaded the Cryptstar firmware, rescanned, EMU on etc. Hey presto, it's all back!

I have however warned mum that with the imminent arrival of Nag3 it is just a matter of time before her box is rendered useless.

Thanks again to cacti, malci and mickah
