Evamae, I was using computers before you were born. I was very comfortable with dos. I kept all the bookwork of three businesses, with an 8088processor, and 64 kb of ram. 1,2,3, was my spreadsheet program. I thought I had died and gone to heaven, when Ouicken 1.1 came out in 1990, and I could print payroll checks as I did the entrys. As ancient as I may sound, I still figure I got 20 or more good years.

... This site has an excellent cross section of all ages and nationalities ... There are actually people older than I am .. That's unusual for a forum ...
... My first CPU system was an Apple IIe+ and I've also had a DEC Lsi 11 ... Deos that date me? How about a Commodore PET? I've had several of those also ...

I got you beat catfreak. My first system was an Adam, with a genuine daisy wheel printer. I paid 650.00 for it, and never really got it to do much of anything. Sold it for 600.00, and purchased a Xerox, can't remember the model, but it had dual 8 1/4" floppy drives. I was actually able to use it for basic bookeeping, and word processing. The program was wordstar, the forerunner to ms word. Paid around 1000 for that system, in 1988. I also had a comodore 64, but the kids just used it for packman & super mario. I can go on & on, but I'm sure that your bored, hearing about the old days. The advances in the last 15 years are amazing. Think what they will be in the next 15 years

I've worked for Intel for 27 years... started when I was 19 I think. I remember when we started using the IBM PC (8080 based) with dual floppies (no HDD); all the secrataries hated them, they were so accustom to the Selectwriter (typewriter for you kiddies). My wife used to assemble the PONG game if any of you remember that - I guess by and large it was the first video game.
and now pc's have 4-wheel-drive and anti-lock braking systems, or thrusters (i.e. the space shuttle), or spit money out at you when you insert a plastic card, or tell you EXACTLY (longitude/latitude) where you are or how to get somewhere - and then you can slip it back into your pocket.
AMAZING, isn't it?
