1st worlds were developed countries (Britain, USA, Germany etc), 2nd world were developing countries (China, India, Pakistan etc) & 3rd world were under-developed countries (Ethiopia, Somalia etc). The terminology was coined in the mid last century to describe different parts of the planet in a simple socio-economic way. If I am not mistaken it is a term that is being used less & less nowadays. It is regarded as politically incorrect.

IMHO, political correctness goes wayyy to far. seems like people are always looking to say how they are mistreated.

I love the terms "fiscally challenged" & "vertically challenged".

The world has gone simply bonkers!

the world in my head often suffices as a lair to escape the incredible pains in the ass of the real world. :-)

thanxies truly. 1st world is basically MEDCs, and 2nd is developing. i can understand why china isnt or shouldnt be referred to as part of the 2nd world, cos its getting really into the industrial sorta stuff, like japan. but japan has been more successful. rite, got it now.

by the way, auslander, the last bit on my quote, i meant that this is all one world, whats the point of rating by development?

I was just using the first countries that came into my head! I can accept no liability for mistakes or any confusion caused, through my incompetence!!

Hopefully you understand the gist of what I was talking about!

... And just what does all of this have to do with a thread called "How old/young are you (to all)?" ?..

... Maybe it's time to close this thread ...

naw, i don't think a mod would close this thread. no foul language, not too much rule breaking, just a little OT. it will go back when people return to posting their age.

methinx there's little harm in a bit of side conversation with the youngens (note the irony) :-)

... I know that this is a peaceful thread ... but I can only post my age (now two score, eleven years) so often without repeating myself ... or boring someone into submission ... otherwise I veer painfully off topic ...

... BTW .. gas here in Anderson. Indiana has dropped to $2.21 a gallon ... such a deal!!.

Yeah, in Hillsboro yesterday, I paid $2.29 per gallon, but near St. Louis today (south county) we paid a little over $2.20.
