austin powers was a good series.
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

Cool russki, but that signiature is outrageous. If you could reduce its size somewhat, that'd be appreciated. It's not in excess of the file limit, but it takes up almost half the screen on a 1280x1024 screen, let alone anything less.

I just scored the SCEPTRE X7g-Naga V Black 17" 8ms LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 500:1 for $150 off of Newegg. I think theonejrs has the 20" but I like 17" screens better. Less screen realestate to take up my desk. Just upgraded from a Dell 17inch with sub-par picture quality and some noticable flicker at any setting.
People say that LCDs aren't as bright as CRTs but I don't notice the difference. The only things I notice are crystal-clear quality, less intense colors(easy on the eyes), and absolutely no flicker! It has an 8ms response time and I haven't noticed any ghosting on any games yet.
I guess it has 1280 x 1024 resolution but I have my desktop resolution set at 1024 x 768 and it doesn't seem to force it in any games. I though LCDs were supposed to(confused.)
But yeah, that sig takes up more than half of the Sceptre :)

LCDs should never flicker! They can also often be brighter than CRTs if they have a high brightness level. Cheap LCDs don't but good ones like Sceptres do. Above 300cd/m2 and you're alright in the brightness department. Typically LCD picture quality isn't great in resolutons that aren't optimal because of picture interpolation but Sceptres seem to handle that well. I'd still recommend you use a 1280x1024 screen res though.

At that resolution everything is way too small. I'm all squinty and stuff >.< lol. The picture quality is crystal clear and has no distortion that I can see.
Do you recommend 1280 x 1024 because I might damage it or because you just think it would look better?

It would look better. People say they can't see screens at such resolutions but I use 1600x1200 on a 19" CRT (18" visible) and it's fine, I used to use an even higher resolution but only changed back to get a higher refresh rate.

See, now for me 1600 x 1200 is like a tiny paper-thin line on the bottom of a screen with icons I can't even see. I'd go and change the sizes but I can't be arsed with it so I stick at 1024 x 768 and it's comfortable for me.

We all have our preferred resolutions. I like being able to have a lot on screen at once, so the higher the better, but for a nice clean image on a CRT, you need a refresh rate of 75Hz or above, so I'm limited to 1600x1200. Fortunately the clarity this scren outputs is such that the refresh rate need not be higher.

Estuansis,
Good buy on the Sceptre! The 20'1 isn't that big. It's overall size is only 19" x 12.5". As you've noticed, Widescreens are smaller than 4:3 displays like the one you bought. They are taller, but not as wide. Mine takes up a lot less space than the Dell 19" it replaced.
You should always run in native resolution as that will be the best picture quality. Mine is always set to 1680x1050. Ay first everything seemed so small but I've gotten used to it. I tried other resolutions but the pic quality is best the way I've got it set now! Do you have your's hooked up Digital, as there is quite a difference that way. Watching DVDs is an experience. It has so much more dimentionality to the picture. It's so life like. If you have it set up right it should be way better than any CRT in both brightness and color! Enjoy!!!
Sammorris,
The 60 Hz refresh rate is not a problem in any way. I have never seen a hint of flicker with mine. I would think that if you have 50 cycle current, maybe it might flicker. When I was in England, years ago the screen flicker on all TVs was annoying because of it. Here in the US we have 60 cycle current, so it's rock steady!
Happy Computering,
theone

Trouble is, if I were to buy a large screen, it'd end up being so big and expensive I couldn't control myself and I'd get into lots of debt. I crave high resolutions, for some ungodly reason, and with bigger monitors you need high res or the pixels look as big as housebricks. Seeing a 42" Samsung Plasma run an SD animation in my local subway makes me cringe. The NECs that are now at work in the reception are better since they're coming off powerpoint.
