So i havent been playing my Wii for about a year or so and the first thing i do when i turn it on is upgrade it because some game asked me too so now my wii is 4.2. Guess its only natural to want the latest version when you don't know any better, but whats done is done.

I got wiikey 1.9g and firmware 4.2 on my European version of the wii. I have never had any homebrew channel or anything like that.

Now with this firmware version I'm getting unable to read or an error on all of my games.

So how do i fix this? downgrade? get a homebrew channel? rip my chip out?

Im so horribly confused with all these new upgrades, Wiikey2, homebrew channel, softmods the list goes on and on..
So a guide on what i should do whould also be great.
When i last used my wii you put the chip in then you installed some drivers and you burned a game and played.. Now you need softmods homebrew etc etc it stoped making sence to me.. So please help!

With modchips it still usually is just burn and play.

You have a european (PAL) wii, are your games PAL games as well? 4.2 blocks playing out-of-region games without homebrew help.

Anyway, this is one of the simplest softmod guides for 4.2. http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-154/...823377/#4970958

I know it still looks complicated but just take it one step at a time and you'll be fine. It really isnt as hard as it seems.

Yes all my games are PAL.

I have around 30ish games that have all worked flawlessly when i last played about a yearish ago.
BUT now that i upgraded none of them are working not even the two i have the orignals of.

Will softmodding solve anything? i do have wiikey 1.9g allready.

Cheap optical media can be a problem as it tends to break down over time, but if your original games aren't working either that makes me think something is wrong with the wii's DVD drive.

Did you play any games after taking the wii out of storage but before updating?

You should update to wiikey 1.9s. I'm not 100% sure if that will fix your problem but it definitely can't hurt.

I would try installing homebrew channel and softmodding. And if that doesn't work then I'd try a USB loader.

I know that really doesn't sound that helpful, but its all I can think of.

Your positive your putting the disc in the proper way?

Updating to 4.2 firmware shouldn't have messed up retail games.

Try updating the system again. When I updated to 4.2 the first time I got an error at the end. I checked and it said I had 4.2 firmware. But since I got that error I updated again just to make sure it updated properly. AFter the second time updating it updated fine without an error.

Maybe something like this happened to you and you didn't realize it and it is causing issue.

How can this be the same problem?

All his games (retail/backups) will not work. You only have 1 game that will not work.

goldie, start your own thread as hijacking another member's thread is a forum rule no no.

similar & same are 2 different things so in effect you are trying to hijack another member's thread. a member's thread is for asking help which we give if possible, not input your own problem into that thread. forum rules state that so give it a read.

I did the upgrade once again, didnt help. Still cant play any game without getting past the intro. either i get the intro and then i get an error or i dont even get past the "safety tips" without an error.

Its really wierd and my warranty from the company that installed my wiikey is long gone.

How about downgrading my wii back to a earlier version of the wii? might that help? is it safe? How do i do it? ^^

Its extremely unlikely to help, and the downgraders are one of the more dangerous homebrew tools out there.

I still think something is physically wrong with the wii's DVD drive. That's the only reason why original games would stop working as well.

Why would you say that?

In just a few days they found work arounds for the 4.2 firmware.

Take out the Wiikey and softmod the system. Or try softmodding the system with the Wiikey still in the system.

I know some Wiikey users have had this issue and taking out the Wiikey and softmodding the system worked.
