Hi all,
I would like to buy the Wii console, and I want to modify it but I read that some new versions of the wii can't be modified.
I would like to be able to understand whether a wii can be modified (either via software or hardware) only reading the version printed on the external box or not (i.e. before paying.)
I've only found information regarding the wii version by means of the serial nnumber which is not shown on the external box.
Is it possible to find out the version only reading at the box? I've read in the wii box the following code: "RVL-001 eur". Is this code enough for my purposes?

Short answer: All wii's can be modded.

Long answer: Exactly how they can be modded varies.

Some newer wiis cannot read backup disks, even after softmodding or installing a modchip. If you get one of those your only option is to install a USB loader and run games from an external drive.

This is only some new consoles though. From what I hear, most new wiis can still play backup disks.

Is it possible to know in which case I am (wii that needs to be softmodded or wii that need a modchip) by reading only the external contents of the box?

I'm not exactly sure if all relevant information is shown on the outside of the box, nor do I know at exactly what serial number the ability to read burned disks vanishes.
