1) Can I use my older BenQ VAD6038 drive without spoofing if I don't connect to live at all?

No, the drive key to the drive still has to match the one on the motherboard, meaning you'll have to spoof your old drive with the key from the new one.

If you get an unmoddable drive, then you won't be able to run backups on it. Don't most just require soldering to pull the key from now though, so you'd have to do that.

Will spoofing require the same procedure like the original drive? Suppose I get a drive which requires soldering to mod, do I have to do the same thing with the benq?

No, but you'll still have to do it to the new drive to get the key from it for spoofing.

Can anyone point me to a tutorial which shows how to get the keys from a drive?
