Whenever I insert a disc into the 360 it may or may not load the game that is in the drive. Also, odd enough, whenever I eject the disc, and put in a different one, the odds of it recognizing and launching the game are mostly random. This all started happening when I was attempting to update the firmware on the drive, the only problem being, the update didn't go smoothly.
Using Junlge Flasher, instead of clicking on the "Unlock BenQ drive" button, I clicked on one of the lower buttons to open the drive by mistake. Well, good news is, I managed to back up the driver before doing anything else, so I still have a copy of both the firmware and drive key (also, just to note, I don't have a copy of the original firmware, since the drive was received modded, so all I'm able to use is the modded ixtreme 1.4 software that came with it). What this means is that, while the drive is no longer recognized by Jungle Flasher even though the correct port is set, I am still able to use Dosflash to change the firmware. So, after loading the modded ixtreme 1.4 firmware, and crossing it with a 1.6 ixtreme firmware, I was able to put it on the drive, and yes, it did work a little.
The only thing I need to figure out now is that, if original and backups will work on it from time to time, then what can I do to increase the chances of the drive knowing that a disc is in the drive? I mean, the power and SATA cable are firmly attached, so that rules that out. The only other thing I can think of, when a disc is being reinserted or replaced, and isn't recognized, there is a "reading" message that appears for a few seconds, but as far as I can figure, the drive mustn't recognize it because it doesn't do anything, but give you an option to eject the drive again.

if you've ever physically opened the drive then this sounds like the lens got some dirt or material in it(it happened to me), it would say reading then open tray, to solve it i took a cue tip and whipped the lense, might be a shot even if it was never opened(something on a disk when inserted perhaps?

I managed to clean the lens of the 360, and yes, the problem went away. I'm telling you...you wouldn't believe the amount of dust inside of it. Anyway, now that's taken care of, the unit should be able to work normally. The only other problem I can think of that has yet to be fixed is that the drive's eject button has to be mashed three separate times in order to eject the tray. Oh well, no major problem, as long as it ejects *and* reads the discs, it's a minor annoyance at worse.

Is it possible to clean the lens without opening the XBOX? I really hate messing with it for 20 mins just to get my burned games to work..

ive had this happen to me couple times with the dvd read error before and after flashes sometimes you can tell the lens isnt dirty
and it requires an adjustment on the dvd pot screw but that requires a multimeter
also i have had a couple consoles mess up with the drive tray not opening unless button is pressed hard everytime taking apart and playing with button resolves the issue
also they used to sell cd cleaners that had a cd with brushes on them but i honestly like taking it apart and cleaning by hand more precise

I've managed to clean the lens, and great news, it works just fine. I couldn't believe the amount of dust that had gotten inside, so yeah, mission accomplished and all that. Thanks a lot guys.
