i know you can get software that recovers scratched audio cds but is there any that works on dvds?

yes, there is a program sold by 321 studios called dvd rescue, it works on both dvds and cds to repair scratched disc,s, they also sell a cd repair only but the dvd program does both.billmex

I have used DVD Rescue before and had great results. It takes quite a while to "rescue" the disc, but it's worth it.
