Comcast pays up for torrent throttling

article published on 25 December, 2009

Comcast, the ISP found guilty of throttling bandwidth of BitTorrent users without first letting the public or the FCC know, has settled its class-action lawsuit today, agreeing to pay $16 million (minus $3 million in fees) to customers who were affected by their actions. Says the ISP: "We are pleased to have reached a settlement in these consolidated class action lawsuits. Although we ... [ read the full article ]

It's good that Comcast was brought to task, but...

If you're stupid enough to use outdated P2P software for file-sharing, you'll be stupid enough to put yourself on a file-sharing list...for $16 profit. :P

Don't you just love corporations like this? They sell "unlimited" bandwidth plans and then throttle them. 16 million is a joke to them, they probably saved alot more by ripping off their customers.

If your fish seems sick, put it back in the water.

OK, $16 million is like a handbag for Brittany Spears. Come on now, Comcast should've been on the line for more than that. They should've been done the same way Microsoft is usually done, for much much more money than that.

Considering Comcast charges ~$53 per month for their basic high-speed Internet access a $16 payment is garbage.

I would have much rather had the cap removed, or at the very least doubled, rather than get put on a file-sharers list for a one-time payment that covers only 1/3 of one month of Internet access.

Comcast should be put out of business. Not only are they thieves (google on- comcast downgrade HD movie) but they label their bittorrent users are communists. If i had my way, i would shut down their business & give it to another cable company.

Time Warner is also crap. How about a DVR that only records "sometimes" HD movies that come in in black and white, no audio or not at all... or the lack of the HD alternative to MANY of the networks offered on DirecTV or Dish. Not to mention TW's overpriced phone services as well.
