Hi, i am really tempted to buy a starview hd box, to make use of the fact i have a hd tv and no hd signal. But have a few questions before i purchase one.
1) Is the picture improvement alot better in hd, and does it upscale non hd channels
2) What is the ethernet port for ?
3) I have heard about problems with recording such as you cannot play back recordings on the actual box itself is this true ??

I would be greatful for all help and it is much appreciated.

1) Picture is a massive improvement in HD over SD. But it does not upscale nonHD content.
2)Err connecting to the internet to play streamed content.
3)Yes you can replay recordings on the box and you can delay live TV as with sky+

Personally I would look carefully at the nag3 situation before buying one unless you plan to use it to stream from the internet or use the DVB-S to get freesat in HD

Well i was looking at the freesat pvr and considered this may be better value as when nag 3 is implemented i can still use for freesat and recording and streaming internet content.

So can i use bbc iplayer and itv on demand and the like on this box then??

And can you confirm which hd channels you will actually receive if connected to cable and satellite.

If you use as DVB-C receiver check cable listings for hd channels, but remember not all the content on the hd channels is in HD.
Freesat HD I've only had my sky sat dish lined up to astra 1 19E but still pick up the free HD channels such as BBCHD ch4 and a few others but not sure it would warrant £200 price tag.
As for streaming..not tried it yet as I haven't had time to run a cable round the house to my router but it looks easy enough in the manual.

TO deano3693, well the starview hd box is a very good box.or to look for a other sat.box. there are a lot of boxes to buy on the market to date. Don't buy the boxes marked with Freeview or Freesat on them as they only limit to around maybe 140 channels tv+radio on top.
now a good HD satellite reciver has up to 10,000 channels to store in
to look for in a box is to have Dvc/Dvbs-1/Dvbs-2 mpeg4 h264 twin tuners. at lease 350Gb hard drive Pvr or more is very good Blind scan to
smart card reader cam.and also upscale sd tv station to hd. u Get up to
480 channels on astra 2 free to air on these type boxes comperd to the free sat or free view boxes.of course there are only around 3 hd channels on astra 2/28.2E for now that are free.up to around 7 on astra1 19E.that are free. But are in German most of the time now u will have to paid around £200 or more for all what in these boxes
but with the sales on around now u might get all this for around £170
or less on the sales .Freesat/Freeview boxes are not up to the Quality picture of a good stand alone type satellite box.

So which box would you recommend then ? , as i am very tempted to purchase this starview 5 box. As even after the cable company move to n3 it will still work as a fta receiver box via satellite and can record.

Well i look up the Starview HD Combo. it has alot of stuff on it.
Now the trouble is,It does not have a internal Gb hard drive only
a twin usb ports to support a pvr to it. and also it does not upscale
sd channels also. Now if u want to add on a hard drive later, it may suit u.The only problem is if u are looking for another Hd combo that
comes with a internal 350Gb or 500 Gb hard drive. Your into big money
any where inbetween £299 and £500 for a hd combo. there a Technomate-7100HD Combo around the£450 marked.at satellite superstore.com/ Now if u are still interrested in buying the starview hd combo .there a site called
the boxdistribution.co.uk are selling them around £160
or order on line at sales@theboxdistribution.co.uk.
Hope this will help u deano3693.

Hi, thanks for your help and I will check out that site selling them for 160 , I have an external hard drive anyway so the fact of an inbuilt hard drive doesn't bother me and I don't want to pay much more than 200 for one ! Thanks again !
