was at the wikipedia page & saw this:

'Units sold in NTSC regions are SD/ED NTSC, 720p, 1080i and 1080p compliant, while those available in PAL regions are compatible with SD/ED PAL, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. A NTSC system (480i/480p) cannot output PAL (576i/576p) games and DVDs (DVD-Video/DVD-Audio) - however PAL units can display "All Region" NTSC DVDs. This regional lock does not affect HD output (720p/1080i/1080p) - except for Blu-ray Disc movies.'

So does this mean PAL/Europe games won't work on PS3 at all? or only output SD? I'm confused, but this would be a definite bad thing for my purchasing plans after the holidays.

If you have a HDTV or a "multi region" SDTV, you dont have to worry about this,or if you decide to use a PC monitor, you dont need to worry about this either.

If you are however using a very old SDTV, then you will have problems, games bought from Europe, will be black and white, though saying that, i dont see why you would want to buy them from EU, they are a lot more exspensive than they are in America.

There are a few games for PS2 that were made in Europe, and not released in the United States. Although this is less likely on the PS3, its good to know they wouldn't be impossible to play.

Bluray is still region protected on PS3, though. Right??

Most Blu Ray movies are region protected, though PS3 games are not.
PS2 and PS1 games are still region protected as are DVD's.

That movie protection is very shortsighted...it effectivly forces you to make a copy of a disk to watch it...at that point, you might as well just pirate it.
