About three years ago, a kid named George Hotz released his tool to successfully jailbreak the iPhone 2G when everyone else was in a stalemate. Years later Apple released a 5.11.07 bootrom that was said to end the jailbreaking and unlocking process. People who upgraded their firmware or bought new iPhone were crying for a release but George Hotz had left the iPhone hacking scene long ago. Months went by and different development teams had given up on the firmware, however, George Hotz showed his face again to the iPhone community when someone offered him $10,000 to create a tool to jailbreak the newer iPhones. He said he'd do it, they asked him how long it would take, he said "24 hours". He actually made the program in 13 hours and released it right on the 24 hour mark. After the iPhone was jailbroken once again he said goodbye to the iPhone community and announced that he set his eyes on another "Unhackable" machine...http://geohotps3.blogspot.com/ he said it can be done.
Thanks for reading and I'd like your opinions.
Remember...I'm new.

This would be very exciting to know the PS3 is exploited to its full potential.
Funny thing about one of Geo Hotz post is "And I've already read everything in the scene last time I worked on this." So he has worked on some sort of exploit before and failed?...I guess he did.
As always...we will wait and see.

he made a hack that apple said could not be done. apple is pretty tight with there securities and what not and he got around it. I bet he could do the ps3. It would just take some time. I have high hopes and faith in that man

We'll see if it's possible in due time..it just matters on a persons skill & determination to break down/analyze code and reverse engineer what is needed to get the end result.

He apparently worked on it previously, for around 3 weeks, but stopped as he "didn't have the hardware".
I've recently got an IPT3, so have been reading round his blog, twitter etc. He says he has been looking for YLOD PS3's on ebay, and one guy offered him there broken PS3 to work on.
Yesterday he posted:
Originally posted by GeoHot's twitter: take it back, i just pulled everything from the usb bus...http://pastie.org/757313 the cell processor SPI bus, PS3 is going down :-)
Have a look at his twitter, he has made several posts about the PS3, see here.
Also, have a look at this...a blog he has set up about his work, kinda like the old iphonejtag.

I know one or two that was saying that they can beat PS3,
both of them have 1 common thing, they dont have PS3.
MO is that even if PS3 get's hacked, who is going to risk he's console to get banned from PSN??
Sony will do anything to keep PS3 locked.

well if he does t I hope he doesnt release it until sony add the ps2 emulation on all consoles, which may happen this spring.
But ive been waiting for this, as we all have, got 2 PS3s for this purpose, one to keep official and play online, and another to install cfw but not to use online.

They can ban the console, though if this guy is legit, then he should find away around that, though he has a very hard job as the PS3's security is far superior to that of the iPhone.

If this guy is legit and the hack works, I will just buy a new PS3 strictly for modding, and just keep it off line. I've been thinkning of getting a second blu ray player anyway in a year or 2 for my bedroom. Being able to see what scene emerges and what kind of homebrew gets developed would be worth the extra couple hundred $$$ that I was going to spend anyway.

Are you sure they can ban a console? I thought they could only ban a PSN account...and new PSN accounts are free...so who cares? I know there are lots of evil bastards on the PSN using the messaging system to spread lies and advertising; when they get busted, they just make a new name...

If i wasnt sure i wouldnt write it, Sony can mac ban a console, im not sure what other methods they can use, but they can render a console useless for online play.

Yes you can create as many accounts as you like but once they ban the MAC address of the console that's it, the only way round would to give the console a new MAC address, but don tknow if that's possible, if it s I doubt it would be easy.

Its not possible yet, though once the system has been circumvented, then a bypass shouldnt be a problem.

all devices that can use our internet.. phones, pcs, consoles, etc. have an MAC adres, its a sort of serial number for the hardware.
on a pc its very simple, if a domain bans ur mac adres, u just plug in a new network card.
on a console (or laptop) this can't be done cuz of the simple reason that the network chip/print is part of the motherboard. u have to be a trained soldergeek to replace one.
but doesnt your router (if u have 1) hold the mac adres online domains can see? if so u can just clone a new mac from 1 of ur devices connected to your router.
and the other thing.. if the ps3 gets hacked. it might be possible to use an usb-wifi dongle to connect to ur router. wich would mean easy replacable mac adresses :)
last word.. getting mac adresses of devices behind your router is your private, and cannot be logged online. there are ALWAYS ways to hide your ps3 mac. that would make it impossible for $ony to ban urrs.
As for i am... I do!

i rather think the ps3 has another serial besides the mac that sony uses, becuz they cant see mac adresses. but that has to be in the hard coded software.. wich a hacker (if the trick gets pulled) is gonna replace. so i carefully say.. a ps3 cannot be banned forever :) ESPECCIALY not when modded/customfilled..

But dont 360 users get console bans? AFAIK, once banned the console is "dead" to online play. I may be wrong though.
If Microsoft can do that, i'm certain Sony will be able to.

Sony are already banning consoles, they can either block the account, or fully block the console.

Yeh, I thought I had heard that, mainly people being abusive on home at the minute isn't it?
I just don't understand how people could "get around" the ban, as people have said in here...if they could, wouldn't people be doing it on the xBox? that being said, I could quite easily be wrong, I don't know to much about this kinda stuff.

I think most of the banning is PSN scamming, they may ban an account at first, but if its continuous, its a full ban.
