My Wii is modded (softmod), and it's ceased to read discs due to some faulty problem with Brawl, and launch Wiis.
Now I'm aware that Nintendo has offered to fix this problem for free, but I was wondering if they would replace my entire disc drive to one of those annoying new ones that won't read backed up games. Or will they just recalibrate the lens itself, and unluckily for me probably update the Wii to 4.2U?
AFAIK, nintendo's fix for this problem didn't involve replacing the disk drive but just turning down the variable resistor to increase the power going to the drive laser.
That was ages ago when the game first came out though. I dont know for sure what their protocol is on the problem now.
Who knows what they will do in your situation. They could replace the drive. They could just fix yours. Hell they reserve the right to just out right switch your system out with a working one.
As to the homebrew. They could send it back to you with a refusal to fix it if Homebrew was found on it. They could just end up fixing it and ignore the Homebrew.
If your that worried then take the Homebrew off.
I would also call and make sure this issue will be covered still. Usually the offer to fix stuff like that is only good for a certain length of time.
You might just be better off getting a USB Device and use a USB loader to load your games and forget replacing the drive all together.
Oh yeah, I forgot that I don't need a working console to load games through USB. And handily, I just bought a 1TB external hard-drive. Eeeh, but I don't have any of my original ISOs on my computer... Yay... I guess that's what ImgBurn is for.
