I can put a game in, the status will say reading but the game won't spin at all. It'll be stuck at open tray. What can I do to fix this? I have a Benq at 1.61.

Sorry for the necromancing, but I've finally gotten around to trying to fix it because I'm so busy.
My friend did the flashing for me, but he lost the original firmware somewhere when his computer crashed. Is there anything I can do at all or is this it for me?

can you hook it up to your pc and extract the key and get a new benq and re flash like infam0us says? or maybe swap over the DVD PCB's so you dont have to flash the new one?
Dont even think about how i do this 1 handed... just know i do and i can kick your ass at CoD, Gears, SF, VF .. get the picture *wink*

You could have a JTAGable box there, what dashboard version are you using?

Well, I didn't know I could do that. My xbox is at my friend's right now, so I can't try anything right now. So I can just overwrite the CFW with new CFW and it'll work? I'll try anything at this point, thanks guys.

switching PCB's will require soldering on the BenQ. Just redump and spoof to the new drive.

So basically for an easy method all I have to do is buy a new BenQ drive.
Find the original firmware(download from somewhere else), write that on to the new drive. Then flash that drive and then success?

Also, is there only one type of BenQ replacement drive I can find? Because I can only find the BenQ VAD6038. Is that the right one?

You need to make sure that the "original firmware" you download has your DVD drive key spoofed to it. If you dont, you will not be able to play games (only DVD's)

NO. You need to dump the firmware from the originial drive first and then spoof that to the new drive.

And I can do this even though I don't have the original firmware anymore?
I found this off of one of the newer threads on here. I'm buying the same BenQ drive. Is it really this simple?
1) read FW off old drive, save file
2) hook up new drive and load saved file as source
3) load benQ ix FW as target and spoof source to target
4) write FW to drive and you done
;) enjoy your brand new BenQ drive
