Got Guitar Hero 5 for the kids ($100). Gave it to them a week early so they could play it on Christmas vacation the week before Christmas. Put the game in the PS3 just to find that my 60gig HD is now Full. Delete stuff. Now, to play the game. The guitar quickly quit working. Only the strum bar and PS/D-Pad would work. Cant find the receipt to take it back. Cussed some but still could not find the receipt. I go and buy World Tour (Sale $60). It has two guitars, surely one will work rite! Put the game in but the HD is too full. Delete Stuff. The Les Paul will not pair and the other one works for a while then quits sporadically. Got the receipt. Take it back. They don?t have anymore. Big haste but I get my money back. Finally, I get world tour with One guitar included. It works. Last Guitar Hero purchase ever for me.

Kids got more games for Christmas and the Nephews were bringing their new games over. Kept having to Delete stuff from the HD. Now it is time for me to replace my 60gig HD with something else. I asked the question on someone else?s post. Will the PS3 Format a new HD to Fat32 or do I have to do that on the PC?

EDIT: While rushing to clean up the christmas mess as the garbage truck is pulling up; we throw away my youngest daughters Cell Phone.

My younger sister gets her kids a Re-Furbished PS3 for Christmas. It works for about 20 seconds and overheats. Will not work at all. Their Christmas was centered around the PS3.

Thanks. I read the walkthrough here and other places and it makes no mention of having to do it on the PC. Just wanted to make sure.

The PS3 formats the HDD itself, though not to FAT32 as the internal HDD on the PS3 is not FAT32.

Ok. I have read of people here formatting them to Fat32 with the partation magic / swiss army knife stuff. Guess it is for other reasons than just normal operations.

You will need an external fat32 drive (or at least a drive with a 60GB fat32 partition) to back up your old PS3 HDD. Then just remove the old drive, plug the new one in straight out of the box and select format when prompted on boot-up. Once the PS3 formats your new drive, plug in your external fat32 that has your old image and do a restore from that image.

Ok, the external HD has to be Fat32. I'm a cheap broke sucker now.
Dont see myself buying two HD's just to replace one. I'll see what I can fit on a Thumb drive and reload/Dl the rest.
Thanks.

That sucks, did it get returned to the store?

About the HD the PS3 formats the HD's automatic so buy a bigger hard drive then switch between the two or delete some stuff make sure its the same type ive seen 2 types of HD's on some 40, 80 60 and 160 GB not sure what kind the 120 uses. i have a 160 GB that would take the system over 9 hours to reformat (delete)so even though id have to when i sell the PS3 it is gonna be a pain in the ass and probably not good for the system to be on so long.

They are sending it back to Sony. They went ahead and picked up a new Slim the day after Christmas.

My 320GB didn't take nearly as long. Less than an hour.

I plan on only saving and transfering Game Save Data.
I plan on getting the WD3200BEVT at BestBuy this weekend. It is $70 there buy I have 1,659 RZ points burning a hole in my pocket.

?I'll be fine by only saving and transfering Game Save Data? And just re-DL Game Data from the game disk? I'm not worried about theams, wallpapers and PSN Game Downloads. I can re-DL them.

For a full reformat? I think theres also a quick format option that takes less time maybe thats the one you did, or maybe your drive wasn't as full either way thats what it said 9 hours 47 minutes was the estimated time my Ps3 gave so i canceled it.

Oh, ok. I didn't realize you were reformatting. I was mentioning the time it took me to format a brand new drive. I never did a reformat.
