Hey There Everyone...
I'm new to this forum and to HomeBrew for that fact, anyways a friend of mine took my wii at the beginning of December to set it up so that we could use an external HD for all the games we could ever want... Well it was great in the beginning we could use the external drive (USB Loader GX) or we could play our own games we had already purchased. Well we got Nerf for XMas and now we can't play it, nor can we play any games we had already purchased through disc because it's asking for a System Update, and all the reading I've done I still can't figure out what to do... Could someone PLEASE dummie proof what I need to do here to get my legit games working...

I don't know what firmware is on the nerf game, but unless it's 4.2 you can update completely safely.
If it is 4.2 then it will remove your homebrew and usb loader and you'll need to reinstall it. There are several very nice guides here on afterdawn on how to do that, and it really isn't very hard.

Sorry for the stupid question but... How would I find out the firmware version of the Nerf game??? And also why can I not play any of my legit games ever since last week??? I never had this issue before I got the USB Loader GX, and I never updated my system...

Did the legit games work when you got the system back from your friend and suddenly stop working? Because if so that's very strange.

I think they did but now thinking about it I can't remember if we actually played anything but the games on the External HD... But Xmas Eve we put in the Nerf game and it right away said System Update for the disc and even if we put in other games like Wii Sports or Wii Fit etc that we've played before getting USB Loader GX it still say System Update, it doesn't go away even with no disc in the wii console...

It sounds to me like your friend downgraded or partially downgraded the wii's firmware and didn't restore it properly.
Either take it back to your friend to fix or update and, if things get messed up, follow the softmod and usb loader guides on here to fix it.

If I update it and it messes up HomeBrew will it still play legit games until I get it back up and running with the softmod or will it kill the whole console..

So I am planning on updating the Wii today but just want to make sure if I do the update will it just erase HomeBrew or will it totally kill the Wii too??? Alittle nervous to do the update as I don't want to kill my Wii...

It shouldn't harm the wii in any way, just uninstall pretty much all of your homebrew and make you reinstall it all. Original games should work properly again.
