i have done the latest 4.2 softmod on my wii and would like to know if it is possible to back up my orignal games or copied games via wii console to my usb hard drive thanks.
I don't have a guide handy but its quite easy. Just attach a FAT32 or WBFS formatted hard drive (a flash drive would work too, as would an SD card if it were large enough) Start up the CFG USB loader (Most current version is 50c, available for download here) pop in your game and press the + button.
Once it's on there you can either extract it as an iso using WBFS manager (if you formatted the drive as WBFS) or if it's formatted FAT32 you will end up with a .wbfs file. I'm not actually sure how to convert the .wbfs file back to an .iso but I know it can be done. So someone else will have to answer that part.
Or you can skip all the trouble of extracting and burning the game and just play it from the hard drive.

Ok, so my setup right now is that I have an external USB hard drive and I download iso's using torrent and then use wbfs manager to put them onto my USB hard drive in the wbfs folder as per the CFG USB loader guide. So are you saying that if I use CFG USB loader to back up the game will it automatically back it up into my wbfs folder on my USB Hard drive then I'm done? or will it backup it up to a wbfs file on the root of the hard drive then I will need to move it to the wbfs folder with my PC?
The confusion here is that you're asking something rather different than the original poster was. He wanted to make backup copies of his games that he owns on disks, and you want to download games and play them from your hard drive.
If you're following the CFG usb loader guide on afterdawn then you cant be using wbfs manager. Wbfs manager is only for WBFS formatted drives, and the guide on here is for FAT32 drives. Since you specify a 'wbfs folder' you must be using a FAT32 formatted drive. If it was formatted WBFS windows would see it as unpartitioned and unreadable space, and only the WBFS manager program would be able to read it. There would be no folders.
You're confusing WBFS manager with the WBFS converter. The manager reads wbfs partitions, converts game isos to .wbfs files and back, and loads them on or off the wbfs drive. The converter included with larry's guide will only convert iso to wbfs for use on FAT32 drives.
When you use CFG USB loader to back up a game (original or burned game) it will generate a .wbfs file in the wbfs folder and it will be playable without converting, changing or moving anything. The game needs to be on a disk to do this. So if you downloaded it and for some reason wanted to put the game onto your external drive this way then you would need to burn the game to a disk, then back it up with the USB loader.
