My brother's dvd drive just recently went out. Fortunately, I have a broken xbox with the same drive as his. Or I think it is anyway. They both have the two white wires so I'm guessing they're both benq.

Now since they're both benq can I just take his out and put mine in? Or am I going to have to spoof it? If so could someone give me a link on how to spoof the drives. Also do I need to know the exact model number of both drives? How can acquire that information?

I looked around myself but all I could find was a guide on how to spoof samsung and hitachi.

Yeah you will have to spoof the drive. Each one has a specific Dvdkey that you need to extract, and if you have an incorrect key your xbox will just rapidly flash a green light. To do this flash you need a couple prep pieces. First is hardware. you need to have a sata card with a "VIA" chipset to connect your xbox to your pc. The chipset is important because some brands wont work. You will also need some software. JungleFlasher 1.67 has worked the best for me it allows you to unlock the drive, read the dvdkey, spoof the key, and write all in one easy to use program. You can also accomplish this with iprep as well both programs are solid. oh yeah something that caused me some trouble when i started out, to do anything to the drive pertaning to flashing you must put it in half-open status. Power on the drive using ur xbox, open it, pull the power plug of the disc drive, push the tray half closed and plug back in. hope this helps.

Ok cool. A little more detail on exactly what I need to the drives to get this to work would be awesome but if not that's fine. I'm sure I can find it somewhere on the interwebs.

But are you sure that's the right way to get the drive into mode B or whatever? I mean unplugging the power the the dvd drive while the xbox is still on is from what I've heard, bad. I'm almost 100% positive that results in a ban.

So could anyone give me info regarding the actual process of spoofing the drives?
