Hi All,

I have about 8 xbox's with RROD I am unable to fix with the xclamp methods, so I bought a heat gun to give that a try as a last ditch attempt. (I know its no where near as good as a reflow, but its all I have access to).

I followed a guide on you tube on the first xbox and now the xbox actually starts up, i get the green ring go round and the dashboard comes on. Problem is that after a few seconds, I get 2 red lights. The fan seems to speed up faster and faster until the 2 lights come on then it goes off.

Im assuming that the xbox is overheating somehow, so I taken it all apart and redone all the atric silver and remounted the heatsinks but it still does it. I have tried adding extra pressure with my hands on the GPU & CPU and it still does the same.

Can anyone help with this? Is there anyway to disable the 360's overheating protectionsfunctions or am I just talking shit?

Thanks
Mike

It worked for me. I had the same problem. I hope this helps.

Make sure your heatsinks are making good contact with the chip. Some #10 washers are thicker than others so if you use 4 washers for each screw like most tutorials recommend it may not make a connection. Then again if it wasnt making a connection at all it would probably overheat immediately so check to make sure all the screws are tightened down evenly...if one is tightened down more it will keep the others from being fully tightened.

yes you are ;-) if the protection is disable your gpu will get so hot that the chips will come lose a little bit (giving you 0102 or 0103) and then you are definitely screwed.

but yes, it is an overheating issue. one or both heatsinks aren't making good contact with the board. in the worst case the board has flexed a little bit, and that is the reason why (even thought it seems you tightened them down right) it is still overheating. if you put it in the casing and screw it down it might sit correct. i actually had one of such a board, the board had flexed a little bit.
but you are almost there having your xbox working

Its working now, I didnt risk cutting the track, however that is really good info to know (Thanks for that BillB).

I basically bolted the heatsink directly to the board rather than drill the case and it worked. I think that one of my screws might have lost its thread so it wasnt tighening properly.

Thanks for all your help everyone, appriciate it ;)
