ok so I've been reading and looking for a while now and I've got a basic idea of the modding my xbox but can someone give me a start to finish guide? (used to mod PSPs hardware and software so im not a idiot about this stuff, just ignorant to the 360) I got a 360 Elite and a game I like is getting scratched up(still saveable). I want to back it up but im unsure of what steps to take. will i have to get a mod chip or no? can i just soft mod and if so what do i need for the software? can i just use alcohol 120 to copy my game disc?

You want to mod your 360 because a game you like is getting scratched up? It would be easier to just take better care of the disc, but anyway:

No modchip needed. Just flash the DVD drive with a modified firmware.

Technically, flashing IS soft-modding. But it's not like the Xbox1 or Wii, where you use a disc and a save file.

Use Xbox Backup Creator & ImgBurn.

ohhh ok i was looking for a button that said edit at the bottom of the post, also for the banned thing will i be at risk any time i connect to xbox live? like is the scan during connection or just when you get online to play a game? If it's when you connect i will just make this a offline unit.

other thing i read in the jungle flasher tutorial is that the portIO requires 32bit is there anyway around that? (running windows 7 x64)

other thing is after i flash iextreme 1.6 (best version?) do i need to do anything special to play a game off a image file (i don't have any verbatim DVD Dls, college student and no job)

I also did a search for "compatible sata" chips but i couldn't find anything to tell me. I have a ASUS M4A78T-E motherboard with the onboard sata, would that be compatible? the chip closest to the satas is a VIA 6315N never mind thats the USB chip. the sata is controlled by the AMD SB750 chip guess ill need a cheap lil sata card

Thanks for the help.

Probably both. Mine was banned while sitting idle on the dashboard for a few hours. A friend was banned in the middle of playing Halo ODST.

Don't quote me but I think I read somewhere the latest JungleFlasher supports 64bit. But like I sad, don't quote me on that one.

Although you can use virtually any brand DVD+R DLs, Verbatims ar recommended for their qualiy, reliability, lifespan, etc. Use iXtreme 1.61

There's a link way over there -----------------------------------------------------------------------> LINK

Attempt to flash to find out. If Jungle Flasher doesn't recognize your drive, then it's not compatible.

You'd have to Jtag to play ISO from the HDD.

I assume you mean kernel 8xxx, and if so, it can't be done.

will the 8xxx kernel ever be exploitable? Is it even possible?

anything is exploitable someone just has to figure out how to do it. they said that for the PSP too that the new firmware couldn't be exploited. not long after it was done. granted from Microsoft it will probably take longer but i think eventually since the pre 8955 kernels are running out more people are going to look into how to crack it and it'll get done eventually.

I dont belive it will ever be exploitable. AFAIK (and i may be wrong), updating to a 8xxx dash will burn out certain resitors on the motherboard making Jtagging impossible.

it flips the switch on certain efuses but there's a debating going on around different forums whether or not it can be reversed. a efuse can be flipped back to working, but whether it can be done the way it's installed in the xbox who knows. I just feel someday someone will find a way because microsoft can send a update to it and access it. so obviously there's a way to access it. and where there's a way to access there's a way to hack. i may just be a optimist about it but one can hope :D
