Kreon drives can't read the games properly anymore. A benq flashed with ixtreme 0800 is recommended now.

Forget about getting a KREON get yourself a BENQ flashed with XI1.6-800 there's a thread around this forums discussing the difference the main beigh KREON can't read SSv2 and the 800 does. So KREON won't give you a proper rip on the newer games they'll boot but your chance of beign banned from live are higher

Ok, so I have a sammy kreon drive that I have been using for about a year now. I have already been banned from live. When you say it cant properly rip newer games because of SSv2, do you mean wave 3 games or the newer wave 4 & 5? I want to buy another box and maybe just use for all my wave 1 & 2 games if that is the case. The only wave 4 game I had played was COD Modern Warfare 2 and that was an original disc. Oh yeah, Lite-on drive not sure which one flashed with 1.61.

Kreon drives are fine. Microsoft is looking at the firmware on your 360, not the fact that you ripped your game with a Kreon drive.
Just get a Kreon drive and make your life a whole lot easier.

Ha!
Kreons are perfect for people who aren't bothered about xbox live and hence stealth. I'm looking at getting one actually. Any idea if the Kreon firmware will ever be updated for the newer revisions of the sh-d163 drives (they're a lot easier to find? I'm guessing it's dead now but I can be hopeful!

Good place to get a samsung Kreon drive that will burn wave 4 games is ixtreme accessories.
They have both IDE and Sata drives.

Wow that site's expensive. Can pick up a newer SATA one from ebuyer (i like in UK) for 1/4 of the price! But of course it's incompatible. I've decided I'm going to go for a blaster instead. I've got a benq drive so can use 800 mode on ixtreme 1.6 to backup games.
By the way I've really had to hunt for this info, it really should be updated into the sticky. I think we need a 'modern' game backup guide.
