Ive got my cable connected from my xbox 360 to my router ive got my ip address sorted but right between xbox 360 and network it fails i have no idea whats wrong plz help!!!

have you input the subnet mask and default gateway addresses into the network settings manually on the 360? or allowed the xbox to asign everything? you could give that a try.
sometimes you have to set up fowarding rules on your router for ports 88 and 3074, there are numerous different ways to do this depending on the router type. google is a great help here lol

Make sure the xbox settings are set to auto. You don't want to be manually putting the settings in. Cable the xbox to the router and the router to your pc.

Yes you do, you need to assign it an ip address so you can set up port forwarding.

ive got it on manual right now but i had to manually set it so do i have to change it back to auto

yes set it up manually so you can have port forwarding and not be a lagger.
portforward.com
all the info is there. no one's going to hold your hand so you'll have to do some reading.
Edit: If you're really stuck then by all means ask for some help, that is the point of this forum :)

ok ive tryed to set it to auto but it just goes back to 0.0.0.0 and i ran the test and it says network fails i also found a pppoe username and password thing so do i need a pppoe username and pass

I think the best thing to do is:
1/ find make and model of your router and download the instruction manual if you don't have a copy already.
2/ read up on port forwarding in the manual
3/ set up the router to forward ports 88 and 3074 (use portforward.com to help)
4/ get your ip address, subnet mask and default gateway settings off your pc
5/ fire up the 360 and input the above info manually into the network settings.
6/ test and play

i'm not 100% sure but does unit that looks like this? I think that what you have there is just a box of tricks that allows multiple plug and play network devices to bee hooked up quickly and easily. From what i read this unit still has to be run through a router or modem first? Thats why you can't find it on the portforward site.

ah, then u have a switch, which most switchs do not have DHCP protocols, which is why your having problems, what is your exact lan setup, could you please describe all the devices u have, and what is connected to what

no, you don't, a lan is basically all the devices that are in your home that have the ability to connect to each other, and possible the internet
we've determined u have a switch, and a dynamic modem?, are those the only 2 devices betwen your computer and/or xbox, to the internet?
just tell me all the devices, and their names and what is connected to what, knowing what type of lan setup you have well help in figuring out what problem your having
