hi Pain7

This is certainly being a pita to sort out lol, can you connect the xbox 360 directly to the modem and bypass the pc? can you give that a go? At least that way you know if it's a pc port problem or not.

Does your moden look anything like This

ok check out this link this is the portforward page you need to set up your modem for the 360. However hard this looks just keep on following the instructions and you'll do it in the end.

There is one other option you have to try if the above fails. I take it your modem has wireless capability, if you have a wireless laptop you can hook up your 360 to your laptop and use the laptop as a wireless adapter. I've hooked a couple up for friends to over come connection issues and it may work for you to.

If you can connect to the internet through the dinalink (eg internet Browser, firefox, internet explorer.)Than you don,t need to worry about pppoe username and password, because that is to connect the dinalink to the internet

It,s only imposable if you give up

To know if he needs port forwarding we wound need to know if the router needs to be set for it to even use programs on the computer. What he should try is to plug directly into the broadband modem. If he can connect that way then yes port forwarding should be looked into but if not then the problem lies with the ISP not the Hardware (unless it is your broadband modem in which case port forwarding is pointless to even try)

So try putting your cable directly into the modem if you still can not connect then contact your ISP and ask them whats going on. If your using Hughes.net no need in trying it is only good for updates at certain times of night when the download cap is turned off.

EDIT: Also i would like to share a tid-bit of info. Even using a switch for your network instead of a regular router (wireless or wire only) you can still connect to xbox live as the ISP is the IP XBL reconizes not the 360 IP. It looks at the MAC address of the console when it looks for bans. your modem sorts all of this out for you.

unplug the cable from the r cable modem and plug your xbox directly in there. Yes you will need a long cable but this way we can determine if the modem/ISP is your issue or the switch your using

You might have to enable UPnP & also enable NAT in the settings of your router .you should be able to access the set up menu by typing in 192.168.1.1 in your web browsers address bar & hit enter

He is not tech savy by any means this has been mentioned several times. Also he is not using a router he is using a switch, they are stupid devices only slightly smarter than the HUB so it doesnt have an IP. Third not all routers have the same IP from the factory Linksys is usually 192.168.1.1 (some are 192.168.0.1) D-link is the exact opposite.

It has been mentioned to check with his ISP/Modem if one is an issue the other is also at fault. Bad ISP = not so good modem. Bad modem = not so good ISP but possibility of upgrades....maybe...

To find out your router IP address, do the following....

Click Start > Type "run" and click OK

In the black command prompt type, "ipconfig" and you will get the following....

The xbox will automatically recognise all the settings on its own there is no need to set it up manually. Even using direct connection to the modem it does it on its own with the crappiest of routers and modems. The modem or ISP is his issue. The switch may not be able to support the xbox or is not a very good switch so it drops the connection so direct connection to the modem or a new switch would be a the solution
