Disc Read Error (no mod)

my son's wii is 2yrs old when you load a disc it gives the Disc Read Error, we have put different game disc's in and still the same error.
any fixes or ideas we can do

I am assuming that these are original discs.

1. Use a cleaner to clean the drive or clean out (vacuum or blow out) the DVD slot.

2. Send to Nintendo. Your DVD drive is defective.

is there a specific drive that i need to look into for a replacement..IE.. d2e,d2c etc... whats the difference in these types of dvd replacements?

If you decided to order a replacement, then any chipset is fine. Most likely though it will be cheaper to get nintendo to service the console, even out of warranty.
