the stock xbox will be fine but I was actually banned when doing the connection test with a silver account (though I had been playing online before so I was probably flagged). I have another one that's flagged so what I do is go into my router's configuration page and select access restrictions then tell it to never let my xbox's ip (or mac address in case the ip changes) online. This way I can play system link just fine without ever having to worry about M$ crippling me

does that banning only happen when people try connecting to live? i also know there is a network test option where the xbox can check if it can connect online, therefor not requiring a live account.

2. is it safe to play link system between a stock and a modded xbox without the stock xbox being banned next time when trying to go online?

so long as the modded box never see's live, you'll never have to worry about it being banned, and the stock/mod lan is perfectly fine
