Hi All,

Sorry about the cliche but..I'm new to this ..told ya so :-)

I have just completed my first WII backup using Verbatim dvd-r disc, LG8164 drive, and rawdump 2.0 using an XP P4 desktop . The resulting ISO looks the right size.

I looked up all posts and an earlier post reccommended running an ISO patcher @ 249 (original disc was 55) and the updater remover tool? I did this as I'm not sure this procedure is still current or not??

I then burned the ISO on a vista 64 laptop using Imgburn @ x4. The operation completed ok but the final disc brings up the black screen of death when placed into the WII.

Assuming my process is ok ?? I will now try different media at different burn speeds.

I'm just asking you guys to verify if my process is ok r am I missing or adding something wrong??

Any assistance appreciated

When is the black screen? Immediately on insertion to the wii? If so, is the game in question new super mario bros?

If the black screen is occurring later then when exactly? And how are you booting the game? Softmodded or hard?

HI! I am using a Modded WII - the black screen appears just after the console has attempted to read the disc for a few seconds. I am then prompted to eject the disc and then power down the console. The game is sports resort.

Modded how exactly? A modchip or softmod?

Also, patching and removing the update are totally unnecessary so long as the game is from your wii's home region.

Patching games to IOS249 is for softmod systems not hardmod. Even then there are only a handful of games that need patched to IOS249. If your system is hardmoded you probably don't even have IOS249 (cIOS) installed so of course you would get a black screen.

BrickBlocking games is usually done on Import (out of region) games. So if the game disc is the same region as your system then it is perfectly safe to update with the game disc.

Blocking an update can cause the black screen because you may need an IOS installed that your Wii system does not have. If you block that IOS from being installed then the game will not load because that IOS is not there to load the game.

So I would suggest doing a 1:1 copy of all your games (do not brick block or patch games to IOS249). Only brick Block Import games (to protect from an out of region brick).

Hi Guys

Thank's for all the assitance - It has really helped me to understand a bit more about the process.

I have made 3 other burns with a different drive using the original un patched ISO using memorex dvd+r @ 1X and 4x and a verbatim dvd-r @ 8X and they all worked fine :-)

Next is to try the original drive on my laptop just to be sure.

Once again thanks for your patience
