I have just recently tried to install some wads, but keep getting the following error.

Installing wad...
Installing ticket (WERE)... Error! (ret = -2011)
Error: Could not install wad! (ret = -2011)

I was able to install some wads once upon a time, and they are still accessible from the main menu.

I have a D2C Mod chip, and firmware 4.1U.
I have the homebrew channel and I can access that fine.
I have Wad Installer 2.1 (.dol) and it starts fine as well.

I just want to know if there is a way I can install wads with this configuration ?

I have never messed around with any ios or cios, I don't even know what those are. According to the homebrew channel it says I am at IOS 61 v19.26 if that means anything.

Any help or a pointer to a tutorial would be much appreciated.

Oh and one more thing, I really don't want to brick this thing, so if it's gonna be a risky procedure let me know, cuz I'll probably just forget the whole thing.

Thanks.

You need to exploit an IOS in order to install a WAD file.

You more then likely updated to 4.1 some time and this will block homebrew from working. In order to get it back you will need to exploit an IOS.

So I would suggest going to my 4.1 Softmod guide in my sig.

Download the softmod pack and follow the SD Card preparation part of the guide. Then follow the DOWNGRADE IOS15, PATCH IOS36 and RESTORE IOS15 section of the guide.

Now place the WAD files you want install in the wad folder. Then start HBC and run WAD Manager 1.5 from the list.

Now follow the below steps in WAD Manager...

Select IOS version to use: <IOS36> Press A.
Select NAND Emulation device <disable> Press A.
Select source device: <Wii SD Slot> Press A.

Now select the WAD file you want to install in the list and press A.

Now select <install wad> and Press A.

The WAD file should now have been installed.

Follow the steps for WAD manager over to install another WAD file.

You can now delete all files off the SD card from the softmod pack except for wad folder and wad manager 1.5 which is in the apps folder.

Thank You very much Larrylje, I followed your steps exactly, and everything works exactly as you said it would. :-)

I just had a few questions if you don't mind.

What does an IOS file do ? Is there a limit to how many I can install, and how do you know which one's are good/bad ?

I installed the neogamma wad, but when I launch it, it says I need IOS 249 or something like that. How would I install that ?
Is it just a matter of using the NUSdownloader, then copying the wad over to the wad folder and installing it ?

And finally, there was some other steps in your guide, that this message did not include such as HBC & BOOTMII INSTALL, BACK UP NAND (BOOTMII): , cIOS38_rev14: , Hermes' IOS 222/223: , etc.

DO I need to do any of these ? I already have HBC.

Thanks again for the clear and easy steps to follow.

You can think of an IOS as an Independent Operating system. IOS's are used for System menu's, Games and Hardware.

So when you start your Wii and the menu comes up it is loaded using an IOS. When you start a game the Wii system will switch to a different IOS to play the game (the IOS it changes to depend on the Wii game itself). A hardware IOS is just an IOS that will run hardware.

cIOS38_rev14 is a customIOS and it is installed to the IOS249 slot.

A customIOS is just a modified offical IOS intended on letting you do stuff that the official IOS can not do (like play backup games).

So when NeoGamma says IOS249 is not installed that means you don't have a customIOS installed to IOS249. So you would run the cIOS38_rev14 installer to install the customIOS to IOS249.

Hermes is another customIOS which is installed to IOS222 and IOS223.

Since you have a Modchip there is really no reason to use NeoGamma since you can already load backup games via the Modchip. Now if you want to use a USB Loader then you will need to install both cIOS38_rev14 and hermes 222/223 and follow the CFG USB loader guide.

I want to use Neogamma to see if it will run my backup of Super Mario Bros. I bought the original, simply because I was leary of doing all the softmodding, but now I want to see if the backup will work with Neogamma.

Thanks again.
