I've just got myself a DVD burner and I'm trying out DVD Shrink.

When I Re-Author (i.e. primary movie), Backup and Burn my projects work just fine on the PC (PowerDVD) and on my two stand-alone players.

But - when I choose to backup the whole DVD (recode) and then burn them it won't play as it's supposed to. In PC/PowerDVD it works but when I put them in the stand-alone DVD players they start up in one of the smaller movies (usually an extra feature).

It's impossible to naviage and access any menus trough the associated remote buttons so they are really useless (a half coaster¿?) unless I plan to just sit in front of my computer and watch them there :-)

Any ideas why the stand-alone players (NoName and Philips) don't recognize these complete DVDs but only Re-Authored ones?

Hi,

How big are the movies that you've done full disc?

What media are you using?

My killer sig came courtesy of bb "El Jefe" mayo.

Hi,

The two movies when burned have these properties.

Chaplin - The Great Dictator Disc 2
4,35 GB (4.680.843.264 byte)

Taxi 3
4,35 GB (4.680.845.312 byte)

According to Roxios Creator Classic the standard 4464MB setting in DVD Shrink should be some 17MB less than max space available.

The burner is a NEC 2500A and the two medias I have tried is Verbatim 4.7GB 4x and Premium 4.7GB 4x.

Would suggest getting rid of Roxio from your system and use a decent burning program - Nero or Decrpyter

The DVDs were readable in my stand-alone players after I burned them with Neros DVD guide.

I used Roxio because Nero failed to work on my primary computer. The successfull test was carried out by moving the drive to a secondary computer.

When I use Nero on this computer it hangs in the burning process. It gets to 1% (Lead-in) and then nothing further happens. Windows is responding but it fails to do a software reboot - I have to press the hardware reset button.

I have no idea why Roxio can use the drive but Nero can not. The only difference I have noticed is that Roxio write using Track-at-once and Nero uses Disc-at-once.

What makes it even weirder is that Nero functions properly with CD-R discs...

My guess is that I have some kind of corrupted driver and a Windows re-install is the way to go since the Nero/DVD writer combo works in another machine.

Hey DKQ,

Roxio and Nero do not play well together. If you have both installed on your system, then Nero won't work well at all. If you read some of the previous posts in this forum, they will tell you this over and over again. Ask the senior members here. They are well versed in their advise.

Hi Kat,

I have noticed that - both here in these forums and from previous experiences from the older Roxio/Nero version 5 programs.

During this I have made a complete uninstall/reboot before trying the other program.

So I'm still lost on what might cause Nero to quit working when I'm using a DVD-R and Disc-at-once.

I have somewhat ruled out an outdated BIOS or a faulty cable/jumper setting since Roxio was actually able to write DVD-R with Track-at-once thus only good data discs came out of that - DVD(video_ts folder) was not recognized properly with my DVD players.

Whenever I found something that worked in one way it has been worthless in another.

That is why I'm now reluctantly facing a format/reinstall of everything to remove whatever is blocking Nero from doing it's job.

Nero 6 which came with my DVD burner is great in fact im lucky that I did get a copyer program with my DVD burner as my last copyer that came with the CD read writer doesnt support it.

You should use Nero for your films you wish to back up I cant fault it at all.

I had your problem, with one film couldnt play it on a DVD player expect my PC. I solved the problem by a fluk I couldnt understand why it wasnt working and so I thought what the hell I try a DVD-RW instead of a normal. Low and behold the thing worked, yet I had done nothing different its only untill later it drawn on me. My DVD combo will burn a DVD-R at 4x and a DVD-RW at 2x it all boiled down to the speed it was burning at, since then I when I back up a movie I only burn at 2x ok it takes longer but since then I not had any problems.

Can someone please tell me what the best way to burn a dvd is from decrypting it to burning it.
Ive got decryter and DVD2One but they take too bloody long.
I use Nero and no matter how what speed I use whether its 1x, 2x, or 4x it still takes about 30 minutes

hi kramer
I dont know how long
Quote:
bloody long
is but your times dont seem that out of line to me.
I use dvd shrink/nero and i can usually shrink and burn in less than an hour(about 40 minutes give or take)using 4x media.
Lots of people use your method(decrypter/dvd2one/nero) without complaints but i wouldnt know how long that takes.

A couple of friends of mine use the same tech. and they only take about 15 mins to burn.
Decryptor - 15 - 48 mins depending on size of movie,
dvd2one - 10 - 27 mins
nero6 - about 30 mins. no matter what speed

Dump the Philips, it's a piece of crap. I've seen more complaints on various forums than all other brands combined. One of DVDShrink's best features is that it produces some of the most compatable output possible.

COLW, I have Roxio Easy Media Creator 7, and I have Nero 6 Ultra Edition. Both with all of the updates. For most things, I prefer the Roxio. I do use Nero to burn DVD'S when using DVD Shrink. If I want to burn from an ISO file, and there are many instances that I have, Roxio wins. BTW, I did not load Drag To Disc or InCD when I loaded the programs. Don't need the packet writing bs controlling my burners.

MidnightD, my Roxio and Nero co-exist quite nicely.
