If you have an old 20/60gb, you can use PS2-based emulators with a swapmagic or USB extreme disk. Otherwise, use linux. There are a couple of PS3-compatable emulators...but they are all first versions and super-buggy...and they only work from bluray; not USB.
The only practical way to play Emulators on a non slim PS3 is via Linux.
If you have money to waste, you can burn the Nes BD-J emulator to a Blu Ray disc and play it that way.
I actually prefer The ZeroGame Project myself for an "all in one" Emulator package specifically made for YDL.
Quote:Consoles supported in v0.50 include the following:

Neo Geo Pocket

Nintendo Gameboy Color
Nintendo Gameboy Advance

And it's always expanding to other consoles with each revision/release these are some of the few that are in the works

The ZGP is literally made by 1 guy making an all in one package on his own free time. I just read this posting from ZeroJay about the 32x ~
Quote:Actually, it's not silly to leave it out. 32X was one of the first consoles I wanted support for, however no Genesis emulator that I can get running on the PS3 supports the 32x whatsoever right now, therefore I can't include it.
Also from my understanding he's a programmer/dev or something like that for a gaming company, who also has a family and his time is limited but his desire isn't. The app is only @ v.50 and he is always adding/fixing features...it just takes a bit longer. That's okay with me as I like ZGP specifically for what he says in the "about page" ~
Quote:The Zerogame Project is an easy-to-use emulator environment running on your Playstation 3 under Yellow Dog Linux allowing you to relive some of your favorite classic videogames using your HDTV and DualShock3.
After installation, users have a nice user-friendly game menu from which to choose the console and game they want to play. Games will automatically be scaled to the maximum size of your screen without messing with the game's native aspect ratio. Quitting the game you're playing and returning to the game menu is as simple as a press of the PlayStation button on your controller.
Players don't need to worry about configurations, command line prompts or dealing with anything else once the installation is up and running.
Screenshots and video previews are supported so you can get a preview of the games on your list before starting them up.
