Ok, so I don't know asian languages. I am assuming this is Japanese. There is a website that is XXXX.com\jap (or has jap in the web address so I am assuming it is Japanese)on the FIRST start up screen.
Herein is my problem. I purchased this for Christmas 2009, it was used and came with over 50 games. All the games work; however, the wii is semi-bricked.
I cannot see what version I have of the Nintindo firmware (going to settings just gives me an Opera error screen). I have a generic wiikey (I opened it up and it says ATMEL EB81 - I assume this is wiikey generic) So questions:
1. What firmware do I have? Can I just upgrade to 4.1
2. If I have a generic wiikey can I update to wiikey mod firmware 1.9 without bricking?
3. Can homebrew run in sync with a modded wii (I want to run GC games and other stuff on homebrew).
My purpose is to be able to fix the error I am having runing any new backups. I see the disc in the disc loader, select it and then press the "play" button, NEXT it says something in Japanese, XXXX-XXXX-XX001. that is all I can make out. So I want to fix this and be able to play newer games. Thank you for your help.
So some more details. I found my model number on the back: RVL-001 (JPN). SN: LJM10... so I think that answers my question that it is a Japanese Wii with a clone wiikey BUT, I still don't know what version I am on. Does it matter? Say if I am on 2.2 (I bought it from someone who bought it a few years ago modded in China) can I just apply the update 4.1 and maybe that fixes the problems with my backup games not working. I tried Mario Kart and Batman Lego. I thought wiikey made it region free. I tried PAL, NTCS, my brother brought over his original Lego Star Wars II game and it plays fine. Why won't my backups work? Thanks again guys.
Allright, I backedup WII Fit Pro and it updated and FIXED MY WII, I am not on 4.1J version. So problems are mostly fixed BUT. Wii Fit will not actually play. I get an error in Japanese. I wish I understood it. It is as above XXXX-XXXXX-001. XXXXX XXXXX XXXX
Anyone know what it could be. ALl of the games show up in the disc loader but they give me this error and wont play after I select them. ALL of my OLD games that came with the system: Metroid Prime 3, Mafia, Ratatolie etc., work fine. What am I doing wronge? I am not sure I want to update my CLONE wiikey since it isn't a "real" wiikey. Any ideas on how I can get these new backups to work?
OK. Amazing how smart I can be. I really appreaciate everyones help. So, I figured it all out on my own (pat on the back).
1. I could not determine my Wiifirmware, it most likely was 2.2 or something. Since my Wii was semi-bricked it would not show firmware version. To fix this I used a backup of Wii Fit PRO JAPANESE version. I put the disc in and everything was in Japanese. I just clicked on the right side bubble everyime and it started to update. It restarted and did another update. After that I rebooted my Wii WAS NO LONGER SEMI-BRICKED!! I got everything working in my settings menu which was great since my Wii remote sensitivity was off (had to sit 4 feet from the Wii for the movement part of the remote to work well and even then it was shaking alot).
2. OK, So YES a CLONED wiikey can be upgraded to wiikey 1 firmware 1.9s. I do not know what version I had prior since I bought this from someone (on craigslist) else who had it for a few years. My Wii is MOD Chip with wiikey CLONE (no hologram). I cannot say that it will work for everyone. I did read some posts that say there is a posibility of bricking (ruining permenantly) your Wii. I took the chance since I wanted to play more modern games. I got the Wiikey 1 Firmware 1.9s from www.wiikey.cn under the downloads section. I used imgburn to burn an ISO. No need to filechop (with the hardware I have). I put in the disc and tested. Press the RESET button to move to each step in the firmware update process. Test passed so I ran the update and now ALL MY OLD AND NEW GAMES WORK. I can play my backup of Batman 2 Legos. I still cannot play my backup of Mario Kart though, it says it can't read the Mario Kart disc. I might try another backup.
3. Still not sure what homebrew does or neo gammer or all that other stuff. Seems like it would be nice to play off of USB and I still need to figure out how to get CG games to work.
Hope this helps some poor lost soul with a Japanese Wii modded with a clone. I spent hours researching and this post should sum it all up.
